That's excellent news!, do you have any photo's or video to share of your build? it would be great to see some. Remember if you have any questions or issues then please do ask, if I don't know the answer then I am sure someone else will know and help. Im starting a new project for over Xmas, I am going to make a mini-hexacopter for some close proximity FPV fun, I am now finding that I am wanting to squeeze the quad into smaller and smaller spaces and being 530mm (644mm with props) that is now becoming an issue... so the mini-hex is born, its from a design called the 'TeslaHex' after the designers username Teslahed. My current Quad will be converted to be a X8 octocopter to become a gimbal and heavy lift ship, that should be fun on its own.

Hi All, Here is a few flights that were never going to be made into a video. On the day the wind had picked up quite a bit so me and CamSump had some FPV fun around this old Prison tower and Norman Castle mound. There is quite a bit of shaking and vibration in this video due to the unpredictable wind but its still worth showing just for the fun factor. Hi All, As the cold weather has set in I have not been flying much so I decided to look through some old footage and found this day in the woods where I was just passing time practising some close proximity. Again the video link stayed rock solid even at its longest range in the forest. @hawc you can almost make a JABcopter for almost that kind of money, I think @TwoZeroAlpha managed to get it around the £200-£250 mark, but its a hobby that does not have to be done all at once...he can build it up bit by bit while learning the ins and outs... http://www.edugeek.net/forums/general-chat/105744-fpv-quadcopter-basic-parts-list-jabcopter.html Check page 15 for TwoZeroAlpha's parts he will purchase. @TwoZeroAlpha I also see there is no power supply cable on the Quadcopter, so you will need some heavy multicore wire and some extra XT60 connectors. I see your Lipo's you linked to are XT60 but the charger you linked to has all the Deans connectors, just in case you didn't spot it then you might want to get one that's got all Xt60 connections instead (but no great hassle if you don't as you will have spare XT60's you can use). I also think you might be in need of these if you want to fly as soon as you get it built.... LiPo battery alarm (worth its weight in gold).. Wow that's a great price @TwoZeroAlpha I wish you all the luck and a fun build, you won't regret it. Can I just suggest something... I see with that frame you get the KKM5.5 board, I have played with this board and its definitely not for beginners!, its a nightmare to flash the right firmware and also does not support Auto-Stability so it will be like flying on other FC's with Auto-Stab turned off which is not for the faint hearted lol... Might I suggest this to begin with... KK2.0 Multi-rotor Self Level LCD Flight Control Board - BNIB (NEW) UK Seller | eBay I am a great fan of the Rabbit Flight Controller, much more plug and play compared to Naza etc and has some amazing features...I just picked a 2nd one up with GPS for £50..bargin Keep us posted with your build!

Just a little update on the OpenLRS system I found for UK use... "In the UK we're limited to 1mW for telemetry on 433MHz. 10mW on 434MHz. For Radio Control we have 35MHz and 2.4GHz as you mentioned but we also have 459MHz up to 100mW available to us and many of us use OpenLRS and EzUHF with special "UK firmware" which changes the frequency from 433MHz to 459MHz at 100mW. OpenLRS using this special firmware has been flown to over 13km which is more than sufficient for most applications (especially considering our Air Law requires that Line Of Sight is maintained at all times). " I also found this handy table to show what freq. is best to use together on your model... Here are some sample recommended configurations:¶ RC Telemetry Video Configuration 1 (US) 2.4Ghz 915 Mhz 5.8 Ghz Configuration 2 (Europe) 2.4Ghz 433Mhz 5.8 Ghz Configuration 3 (US) 2.4Ghz 915 Mhz 1.3 Ghz Configuration 4 (Europe) 2.4Ghz 433Mhz 1.3 Ghz This was handy as I was trying to work out what freq. I also hear it is illegal to be drunk in a pub (drunk being defined as 'someone who has drunk more alcohol than is legally allowed to then drive) but you don't see the police enforcing this unless you act an idiot which I think would be in the same situation as your Tx power etc (might be a bad comparison lol). I have seen this conversation happen on MANY FPV/RC forums over the years and many threads get locked just because group A can not see the point that group B are trying to make due to the legalities... many comparisons to driving 35mph in a 30mph zone compared to driving 60mph in a 30mph zone, both are illegal but one is just stupid lol. I'm not saying that the laws should be ignored in anyway and I full agree with the points @pcstru has made, those consequences could very well happen.

Thanks for the info @pcstru - I am sure anything over 25mW (land to air or air to land) is against the UK rules, I have seen distances of 2miles from a 25mW 5.8Ghz with the right antenna setup. Most FPV setups sold from shops/internet in the UK are WELL above these limits (average 100mW Tx's)... So I know two wrongs don't make a right but I would not stop buying the OpenLRS system just because of the Tx power... also how or who would enforce this say in the middle of Dartmoor? (of course ignoring Dartmoor's byelaws). That aside, I am sure if you did something stupid with your RC model and it got into the authorities hands then if they were inclined then you would probably get the book thrown at you... hopefully common sense will per vale there. "You can use 433 Mhz on flying models for telemetry" I think the rule is if the transmission is from a ground station to another ground station (ground to ground transmission) then that is allowed... all the rules are different from air to ground transmission's (not ground to air). I might have the wrong end of the stick tho

I was looking at OpenLRS the other day....found it dirt cheap but without antenna... 433Mhz HawkEYE openLRS UHF system JR/Turnigy compatible and 433MHz 9Ch Receiver-in Parts & Accessories from Toys & Hobbies on Aliexpress.com That's a 1W! Tx, normal Tx's like the dx6i or 9X are <100mW. looks great. @FragglePete, you know the attitudes are the best at the moment and if you get anything else you will still be wanting them. I can tell you its one of the finest investments I have made for this hobby, worth every penny for the enjoyment you will get from them.

haha damn those pesky sheep! The owner was right next to be when this happened...I did not want to get that close to them to cause stress/alarm so I apologised straight away but he said it was fine and said they could do with the exercise lol

Hi All, Here is a break from the normal type of video I do. This is a beautiful farm with some amazing ground to fly FPV around, I have already made 2 other video's from this place having FPV fun. I would join you guys on this one but I think I peaked last year, had the stupidest huge handle bar moustache which I had during my sisters wedding so I'm/its in most of the photo's looking an idiot lol. The thing I don't like about Movember is that I have a beard all year long and have since I was about 22. Then people who I have known for all that time then say "oh your doing Movember, have you ever grown one before and does it itch?...etc etc" well call me sensitive but that's a kick in the chops, you have known me for over 10 years and you have never seen me with facial hair? insult taken! lol but its for a very good cause and I wish Team EduGeek all the luck in the world

As Ben says, its the early model where you have to cut a wire to attach another module, the later version has the antenna attached to the module and a newer FW I think....but its the best cheap remote out there, you can flash open source FW to it which give it the features that a £300 remote has. Highly recommended

hmm there is a huge choice....I would try down the line of the WLToys v959 or some of the smaller Walkera quads but then you will need to purchase a supporting remote....or a kk2.0 is 50.5mm x 50.5mm x 12mm with some small 5-9amp ESC's...not sure on the motors

@plexer I wondered why you posted this...then I had a good look at it. Good spot Ben, 'point 5' they have shorten the distance between the prop and the motor...problem fixed I also see its got another 70meter range! excellent if you converted it to FPV...but I could barely see my X4 at about 30meters range let alone 100meters and I like the option to have anti-flip in extreme mode Good luck with your little Quad, what flight controller are you going to use and motors? looks a very sturdy designed frame. @pcstru Again you Star, thank you very much for the offer, I will keep you in mind if I get the urge at the moment all (what little I have lately) my time is going on the big Quad, I'm having a rejig and attempting to add a brushless gimbal as a clip on option for when I'm not doing close proximity flying which is keeping me busy.

They look brilliant, I think if I had a 3d printer then I could make a frame and use the flight controller from one of the cheap Hex's like the Walkera Hex or similar for half the price and twice the fun and it would be 2.4Ghz Thank you for the link, kickstarter is great to see what new idea's there are out there.

Good man @Paul_L, you won't regret that purchase. The Hubsan is such a good thing to learn on I think as its great in the living room or just as happy in an open field (if you have good eye sight lol). That crash kit looks good, I wish I had one when I was learning, does the crash kit clip between the motor and the prop or does it attach to the arm or motor directly? I ask because most failures on my X4 was because when the X4 lands on its roof it pushes the props and motor shaft through the bottom of the motor casing so you have to replace the motor...but if the kit went between the prop and motor then that could no longer push the shaft out the bottom. Keep us posted on your progress and don't hesitate to ask questions

@MGSTech cheers for the info.... Even for the cheapest one that's £355 (£270+£85 for RC gear) plus you still need Lipo's and a charger and I have never been a fan of the flamewheel frame design and it only has a KK2.0 FC. The only plus of that purchase will be that he has test flown it before you get your hands on it

That action is fully in the spirit of this hobby, 'find your own way to the clouds and enjoy' and using a 3d printer as well is just perfect How much did the Reprap cost to make and how difficult was it sourcing the parts? I would be interested in making one of these

So close Ben what kind of 3d Printer do you use? any links of photos? Lastnight I finally managed to flash the new firmware on my new gimbal controller and tested it using a gimbal, all went well but I now need to fine tune it while attached to my Quad. I must admit the last time I flew was September 2nd! its been eating away at me but the wind and weather/time has just not been kind to me. lets hope October brings some flying weather
