    Hi All, Since its been nothing but bad weather lately and when it is sunny I seem to be working I thought I would put together some of the antics I've been up to FPV in the wind. Some flights were done with Tls Tony as my spotter which he did an excellent job after he got used to my style of flying The wind that day was very strong as well. I had to add my little wobble at the end, I had been fighting the wind in the Leat and hit with a gust of wind as I left under the tree (quadcopter) and that started my (myself) wobble off trying to keep my balance and it carried on until I landed lol great fun.     haha sorry I said the whole sentence in my mind but only typed about half of it lol I meant I had to get mine (Hubsan X4 v1)back up and running, it was a fight but is n ow puring around the living room during this horrible weather. The new one has excellent improvments over the model I have..but equaly just as fun

    So much fun can be had with the Hubsan, my friend recently purchased a new Hubsan X4 to learn some skills before he gets a Phantom (against my recommendations lol), toke quite a while to get it back air worthy but its now dialled in and I'm having so much fun indoors while this weather is crap. The new Hubsan is built VERY well, the hits and knocks my mates one was getting would of ruined my hubsan in the first 2 hits. Well done Hubsan for a great improvement!

    @TwoZeroAlpha Excellent video mate, the quad looks very stable and plenty of power and at an excellent price as well. Well done I look forward to seeing things improve over the coming months and maybe even see some FPV from you if I'm lucky

    That gimbal looks a bit more solid than the carbon one, my issue with them is the L shaped piece the GoPro sits on, as one end of it is not supported it adds a point for vibration and with the IMU attached this ends up in oscillations (regardless of your gains), there are ones which have a support one side and the brushless motor the other side or instead of the L shaped shelf it uses a flat plate (held vertically) which you strap the GoPro too, this is a much better design (I think)... like this one....its a bit more pricey lol DJI Zenmuse H3 2D GoPro Brushless Gimbal fpv | eBay This is a good design by the looks of it...I want that little tray!     Nice frame @FragglePete that looks 100times better than the one I got, I like how it has the connection for a 3axis gimbal as well. I don't think the APM supports brushless gimbals, I think it only has the outputs for servo gimbals like most FC's at the moment, the other control boards have (I guess) ESC's built into them to power the brushless motors directly but I am not sure about the APM totally.     I like those vids Pete, the first one made me a bit dizzy looks like it was perfect conditions for a good flight. 'Drift' mode! I want that! its gotta be so much fun, would be perfect for flying around a multi-story car park with some car tyre effects in the back ground. Where you using that mode in either of your video's here? The X525 has to be modified to give you more real-estate but its a very good, simple and reliable platform to start with and expand as your skills grow. Be careful about just buying a new frame and thinking it will be the end of your troubles, every frame has to be tweeked and setup just right to perform how you want, which can take a very long time and many crashes to do. Spider frames seem to be even harder to setup just right as they are a strange config with weight stretched out in either direction. Do you have a link to your new frame? I got this one...     Hi All, Well what a great start to 2014. Its been a few months since I have been able to fly FPV due to other commitments and terrible weather. The start of the video is the first full FPV flight I had done in good weather since before the new year and I enjoyed every second of it. I had to calm my nerves doing the close proximity as I had forgotten how much of a rush and fun it was. 2:16 is my first ever FPV flight at night. I have added extra LED's (5050) to the arms so that my spotter had a better chance at understanding orientation at distance in the dark. My hats off to CamSump for being a great spotter in a difficult situation. The Sony PZ0420 (my FPV camera) performed well beyond anything I had expected in these conditions. At 3:21 I could see all the outline of the buildings and details in-between the lights of the town via my goggles but the GoPro just does not pick out all that detail the PZ0420 could see.     @plexer Lil blue is looking great! some hard work has paid off there. I see your using the horrible soft metal X's under the motors, I found these to give me no end of trouble due to them just bending even half a mm which will make a huge difference in handling, shaking and vibration. They were good for absorbing the impact from a crash but after you bolt the motors direct to the arms then the next bit to break on a crash will be the motor shafts but your quad will be locked in, it was shocking what difference it made getting rid of them.     @plexer that looks excellent Ben, like a fortress of solitude for your flight controller, do you know how much the top weights? One note for your next printing session might be to angle those walls a bit otherwise in a cross wind your quad will be shaking like a nutter being pushed from above its CG. The print quality looks amazing, I would say you have this 3D printing lark nailed down.

    I 100% recommend the Hubsan X4, this will get you trained and give you the buzz of how multicopters work at a minimal cost and risk, they range from about £22-£39. After you have mastered that then you can decided if you want to pour money into a bigger Quad/multirotor Grab one for each of you this Xmas period, you will both have SO much fun indoors or outdoors

    @Ant lol wicked news that your still playing with the Hubsan, it will put you in a Very good state to then fly your large Quad. Did you run into trouble making your quad or was it just a lack of time that ground you to a halt?

    @TwoZeroAlpha the build is looking good, shame about the crash but its all a learning experience. The X525 is a great frame with modifications, might I suggest you get rid of the horrible/flexy/brittle motor mounts and mount the motors directly to the arms, it reduces so much flex and vibration and you wont end up breaking the mounts everytime you land hard. I used one of the holes already there for the motor mounts and drilled another hole to fit the motor (also a large hole between the two screw holes for the motor shaft to fit into)(get rid of the horrible soft metal X motor mounts that came with the motors). With the frame plates, turn the extra little third plate around so that it locks the arms into position restricting the folding action, I have seen quads drop from the sky due to one of the arms unexpectedly folding away lol, not nice to see. I also swapped out the ali arms for stronger ali arms as the metal they used for the red and black arms is just one stage above tin foil lol, the swap added 80g to the flight weight but made the quad feel like it was on rails. I can't wait for some time off to get stuck into my own build, bring on Xmas!

    Hmm interesting, I didn't think they did a slim version of the 12Amp due to them already being so small compared to the 20/30Amp ones, I will have a search around

    Here is my TeslaHex build... This is the first part of the build, just testing the frame... Here is a comparison between the Skywalker 20Amp ESC's and 1000Kv motors from my big Quad compared to the mini 12Amp ESC's and 2500Kv motors of the mini hex

    excellent @plexer, using the same motors will give you so much power as long as you keep the weight down. How is your other quad build going? did you manage to sort out all the wobbles?

    That looks a nice and strong frame there @plexer, whats the measurement between the motor shafts and are you going to be using smaller motors or using the same size?

    Cheers for link, that wouldn't last 5 minutes in my hands, the only reason I would use a collective pitch Quad is if I was to use a IC engine to power it, waaay to many points of failure, other wise just give me reversible ESC's and a FC that supports it jobs a goodun

    I would suggest a HPI Savage X, they are almost bullet proof and have such reliable IC engines in them, I still have my old Savage X 4.1 and enjoy a good bashing every so often. You can get bags of spare parts off ebay as cheap as chips. I think companies can post fuel to you but they have to use a delivery company who allows it in their rules... someone like DHL or similar might.

    I believe the standard Hubsan X4 can lift (to a hover) 20g of extra load but at that limit you will loose height trying to travel in any direction. The heli's with counter rotating props are a little bit harder to learn compared to a well setup Quad due to it naturally wanting to twist (yaw) at start up and throttle increase etc, Good thing about Heli's is that if the battery gets low then you tend to start loosing height but are cushioned by auto-rotaion, a quad will just stop and plumet or accelerate to the ground Anything RC that can fly in my book is great fun be it a Heli, Bi, Tri, Quad, Hex, Octo, Dodeca, Wings, planes etc
