After starting to tidy my new office a number of strange things have turned up including a boxed, unused router, stacks of spare CD/DVD drives, HDDs, a Black and Decker jigsaw, a water heater and a sink 8O

has anyone else found strange things at their place?

Recent clear-outs of old store cupboards (not mine, I might add) turned up some 5.25" floppies and (paid) invoice for 5 Acorn PCs (a bargain at just £700 each!!)

A more productive clear-out a year or so ago found a "brand new" scanner which no one knew had been bought. I say brand new in inverted commas as it was boxed and unopened, yet 2 years old!

A parallel port webcam

Netware install floppies

Box of program chips for BBC Micros

Random joke converter leads (scart -> scsi)

oh, and we once found a student hiding in a box in a classroom. :)

I decided to tidy my cupboard out a little the other day... I've only been in my current job for 2 and a bit years!

Anyway... What I thought were empty motherboard boxes (my predecessors were hoarders) in fact turned out to be 2 used mobos and a sealed box containing a Toshiba PC system board!!!

I must have chucked out a couple of hundred CDs too!

We found two Brand new sealed Windows XP laptops and a Brand new sealed Windows XP computer that had a Delivery label from 3 years ago.

I can't believe people forget about things like this, If it was there own money it would be different

At my old school I found a fully working sink with running hot water and mirror at the back of the room which was a little odd. The best find was the Acorn laptops.

Not found so much at my current job, so many room moves in recent years that junk doesn't have time to collect. However in my previous job when I cleared out the two ICT store rooms they had I found;

2 hand held B/W scanners with MCI bus controller cards (Brand new in their boxes)

1 boxed up un used dot matrix printer

Loads of old parallel port print servers

Tonnes of old DOS and windows 3.1 software

1 old server (486 based)

A complete set of SIMS floppy discs (circa 1990ish)

Lots of paper work, most dating back to early 90's

The second store room was literally stuffed full of old Computer and projection equipment, including 10+ RM186 machine, lots of BBC micro equipment (probably 30+ working machines) and lots of old film and slide projectors.

I filled up a skip with that lot. Really didn't want to throw it out as most of it was in fantastic condition.

I found an IT book borrowed from the school libray this week when I cleared out an old cupboard. It was 16 years overdue. Also found some network plans, unfortunatly it was the econet from 1985.

A BBC model b micro and some Basic programming books.

Funnily enough the Desighn Technology teachers decide they could use it with a milling machine they have

I found two old Mac Classics in a box earlier this week when gutting the server room. I've piled them with the other 20 that are currently hidden under the main hall stage :p

Wouldn't like to be the one who takes it back - could be expensive!

I don't know about finding things when tidying but finding random cabling is one of my hobbies here. There is such a maze of cabling around the school it will take me weeks of work to remove the useless stuff. We still have half of our old BNC infrastructure in place!!
