CCTV in school

HI all,

 

question who is incharge of you cctv?

as im doing alot of it now should i state that its not in my contract or ask to have it added and pay incress to cover it and the time?

In our case it is the bursar, but she has delegated some of the time consuming searching to the a couple of the admin staff. We do get called in occasionally if they cannot view the DVR boxes across the network or when they need to write the video to a CD (no not a DVD) for the police. Thankfully we have very little contact with this kit.

The site staff look after it here, we have very little to do with it, only if it fails to record to disc do we get called down.

It used to be us.

 

Then devolved to the FM company as the system is intended for building security only ( and that is their remit ).

 

Having said that we have had to set up zoneminder to monitor one location. more as a deterant than anything else.

We do it 54 cameras and counting.... much prefer the newer Geovision IP stuff less hastle to install.

Us for internal cameras, and footage recovery. Gatehouse for additional/out of hours. 130 or so cameras across 6 panasonic DVRs.

Our caretakers do it all. Only time i get called down is when the police need a copy. but that is soon changing too.

Here, us techies do. We have a policy that states nobody can view the cameras without SMT's authorisation, so that stops everybody wanting to view it at the slightest of incidents.

We're involved in pretty much all of the building management, but the caretakers usually manage with the heating and emergency lighting fine on their own, so we just control CCTV and Doors/Access fobs

it runs over our network so we get involved in assigning POE and ports, installing the client software and the server sits in our rack, but otherwise it belongs to site management.

We are taking on the management side as we hope to move an IP based system running vivotek cameras and zoneminder but premises and various people will have logins to be able to view and download content. On the basis that the head caretakers likes it and understands how to use it means we shouldn't have to get involved very much apart from when they want a new camera / the server breaks

We use Milestone XProtect here as part of our BSF rebuild, and because I no longer work directly for the school I'm technically not authorised to view the CCTV camera feeds, and I'm technically not allowed to see any SIMS information, which means I can install the Clients and make sure they work/connect back to the servers thats it. However the stand-alone CCTV camera in my office is managed by me.

Premises manager manages and sorts it out, I only get involved with giving IPs and installing software. The cameras are in a dedicated "room" so can be viewed but are not constantly monitored.

I got the quotes together and managed the company who installed it.

 

I've shown various members of key staff how to use the system and view the footage if required, I do it occasionally also.
