DT2 Posted October 26, 2012 Posted October 26, 2012 Hi guys, What do you currently use for imaging systems? I now have responsibility for rather a large amount of desktops/laptops and most will need upgrading to W7 in the [very] near future. Anything that incorporates UDMT would be great, otherwise I'd just be happy to get an idea of best practice. We currently use SCCM, but it takes an age. Thanks in advance Darren
jamesfed Posted October 26, 2012 Posted October 26, 2012 MDT for us - cheap and chearful and does the trick with plenty of options to customise. We have a single base Windows 7 image for EVERY pc in the school, MDT holds onto drivers and aditional applications that we don't do through App-V (IWB software, Outlook 2007 and Sophos are the main ones). Take about 30 minutes tops to go from 0 to 100. 2
SYNACK Posted October 26, 2012 Posted October 26, 2012 MDT rocks, especially when you use all the fancy DB extras. If you are already using SCCM then you are probably already using an abstracted version of MDT as it is a component of SCCM. 2
glennda Posted October 26, 2012 Posted October 26, 2012 Linux based Fog will also do asset management and a whole host of other things for you. 1
jamesfed Posted October 26, 2012 Posted October 26, 2012 WDS is doing us just fine atm. Take the bump up to MDT if you can - will be amazed at how much easier it is to deploy a room Using MDT and App-V to deploy Windows 7 and applications - YouTube 1
Oaktech Posted October 26, 2012 Posted October 26, 2012 Give us a minute, we are still getting our head round WDS from the RM implementation of RIS.
DT2 Posted October 26, 2012 Author Posted October 26, 2012 Yeah, we have a custom written system that integrates with SCCM (DCT)and flakes out every ten seconds requiring the services to be restarted. Unfortunately I don't have access to the server infrastructure, so I'm a bit limited to what I can do.... If I can take some of this info and show there's a better way, that may help some. Darren

eddyc Posted October 28, 2012 Posted October 28, 2012 WDS here but hopefully moving over to SCCm this week.
speckytecky Posted October 28, 2012 Posted October 28, 2012 A special thank you to Fitzharrys IT Department for their excellent U-Tube offering. Crikey - you fellows are light years ahead of me, bout time I started to catch up I reckon These tools will certainly help - big time. mbalik Posted November 8, 2012 Posted November 8, 2012 We've been using FOG for a few years now and it has worked great. The price is right and performance of imaging tasks is faster than we ever had with any other imaging solution. 1
ozydave Posted November 17, 2012 Posted November 17, 2012 FOG here as well. Great bit if kit easy to set up

synaesthesia Posted November 18, 2012 Posted November 18, 2012 Plain SCCM here, may add in MDT at a later time. Absolutely nothing wrong with performance of that whatsoever. Just works.
cpjitservices Posted November 19, 2012 Posted November 19, 2012 WSUS and Fog here, I used to use ENGL Imaging toolkit (for Zenworks) when I managed a Novell Netware network... and do miss it a lot.

I know this.... but we don't have access to the server, nor did we set it up, and you know how people hate to be told they've done something wrong..... I may just build a local server
