hI do you know how to stop vpnc adding dns servers? even if i delete them out of resolv.conf them come back, even if the vpnc got disconnected the dns are still there and i don't want them during the vpnc session anyway, Mint 14 btw

sorry i see what you mean, tbh i read it as they were telnetting onto port 25 and sending mail.

i would rather protect the server. its likely someone could still plugin their own device and run telnet.

can't you block the port with the firewall? only allow specifc ips / hosts

I have a (effectively) a USB serial device needed to be used on any computer. I have installed the drivers via DEVCON and window now knows what it is, but still prompts the user for an administrator username and password? anyway round this. its really irritating because we are not going to be able to be at their beck and call everytime they decide to use a different PC or even USB socket. XP btw

i'm thinking more bridge a trixbox/asterixnow/freepbx (something asterix based) to a BCM and slowly migrate users so i don't have to buy 200 handsets all at once and re-train 500 users monday morning. BCM400 for voip isn't looking great looks like you need a license we don't have and @john 's comments aren't promising. I'm certainly not upgrading to another BCM, the idea is the (pick 2 not 3 ) cheapest, easiest, least hassle migration path.

might have a look at them, do they have integrated ethernet switch ? going to setup trix tomorow/monday got 2 cisco handsets coming and a freebee sip trunk over tinternet for testing. hopefully trix will talk to BCM then i can get the real SLA'd sip trunks to the trixbox and have that communicate with the BCM and slowly move people over. integrated switches in the phones would be a big selling point and would avoid overpriced data point installation when we want to add a phone somewhere which already has a pc.

i've seen that, hopefully i can setup a trixbox alongside as the cost of handsets all in one go will be prohibitive to the project.

Any idea how to hook it up?

FMS, and the LA uses AnyComms for datatransfer. S: drive mapping doesn't worry me, its in group policy. the local sims.ini isn't a problem as I use app-v and will repackage SIMS when this is done but I'm glad you reminded otherwise i probably would have forgot.

isn't the doc management service folder the name of the server running SQL? not sure i was clear in the original post. SQL server is a dedicated SQL server which runs lots of databases not just sims, that stays as is. then there is a 2003 box which is just basically sims file server / doc storage. but thanks i feel much more confident now.
