Hello I am new here and I am from the UK. I have been studying satellite communications and encryption since 1996 to the present time and have knowledge of networking, FTP, and Telnet/SSH, Linux and Windows. I am looking to work in schools soon if possible but not really sure where Hope to see some of you around the forum sometime.

im new here too. From UK ..working as a ICT Technician / Network Administrator in school local to me. On here for advice for certain aspects of the IT within school. Im looking to progress soon tho, and move elsewhere..maybe even abroad if my skills/life allows.

 

So any advice anyone has will be helpful. Im sure you'll see me posting around here for information i require.

Years ago when I was a first year out Economics teacher, I ran a Computer Studies lab at a senior high school in Sydney Australia, coming to grips with a dozen brand new Commodore 64's. Now I head up international business for a 136 year old education company (not an Aussie company BTW) that just launched a new MIS for UK schools last month.

 

I love the energy and frankness of this forum. I want to get closer to the MIS action here.

I'm Gaz and work for a college based up in God's country - good ol' Rhondda Cynon Taff. I've been an IT support Techy now for just shy of 3 years, supporting Academic & student's alike.

I have 4 other counterparts at other college sites in South Wales, with an Assistant manager & IT manager above us. And together I think we're one of the smallest IT team's around in comparisons to other college's.

 

Recently it's been all change on the F.E. front with merger's and buy outs happening all over Wales due to the WAG's new policies.

Interesting times...

See, that's how I know my wife's a keeper - she lets me have my A500 (2mb RAM, Workbench 3.1... whoo) set up in the spare bedroom permanently. I have an old desk I've set up to be my retromancy lair - the Amiga sits on top, and each of the three drawers has a square cut out the back for cable routing to the N64 in the top drawer, Dreamcast in the middle and Gamecube at the bottom. Getting it all wired into the telly was a bit of a logical knot but well worth the effort

I miss my A1200. I don't really miss memory errors in one program being able to down the whole OS, but I do miss the "good old days". My setup topped out at 1200, 68060, 24Mb RAM, 1.2Gb internal 3.5" IDE (cut the casing away), one of those drive controllers that attached to the clock header?!? + Zip drive, CD writer and 5.25" full height 340MB HD, all on scsi in a separate tower.

The error's never really borrowed me neither. The joy factor always outweighed the crashes, plus it seemed to be an inherent skills to apply the art's of tinkering you Amiga to get it running smoothly.

 

That's some serious grunt you've got in your tower.

I'm assuming that you had applied it to some graphical application or music sequencing.
