Worked for over 11 years now as a techie in education, inbetween getting a degree in computing and informatics at uni (worked part-time as a technician in a school at the same time).

 

Have had various roles in secondary and primary education on the IT side - now network manager for a large primary school.

Hi I'm Steve from Wellingborough, Northants.

I'm currently an ICT Technician and Teaching Assistant working at St Mary's CEVA Primary School in Kettering.

 

We're hopefully looking at a new school in 2008/2009 so it's a very exciting time for us here in Kettering. (stay tuned for updates:) )

Hi, I'm Nick and I'm the Network Manager at St. Joseph's Convent School in Reading, an independent Catholic day school taking girls from age 3-18 and boys 3-7. The network is RM CC3-based with ~150 PCs and about 500 users. I am the only "hands on" techie in the school, however I work closely with the IT Co-ordinator.

 

I worked in a variety of IT jobs in industry before moving to education 4 years ago. I enjoy playing strategy computer games and watching Sci-Fi (does that make me an official geek?!). I got married last year, and have neither children nor pets.

Ok, I am only a newbie to the School ICT thing, I have been in IT for over 12 years.

 

I have usually worked for smallish barn in a field type companies until about 6 years ago, then I worked for Daimler Chrysler UK Ltd (head office) in the IT department, and now I am intergrating myself to the world of ICT school life.

 

No doubt there will be many questions asked and I will do my best to offer what knowledge I have.

lol, I have only changed a couple of passwords, a few profile resets, laptop builds. lol

 

I dont have my CBR check through yet, so I am not release into the corridors unaccompanied, so I am implementing, intranets, room booking, helpdesk log systems at the moment.

 

Its fun, much better than working for corporate....

I work as a specialist ICT teacher / coordinator / network manager in a Primary School in London, my experience goes back to BBC Bs, 380Z and Nimbus networks.

One of my main projects at the moment is developing a Joomla site for Royston High School and this place seems to be the dogs danglies for support. I'm using the JoomlaGeek template at the minute on a testing WAMP server internal to the school and my aim is to develop everything internally, test and then finally move it onto the internet.

hi to all the geeky types who also work in the farce known as the british education system

 

i work for a medium sized secondary in barrow-in-furness, cumbria (thorncliffe school)

i'm 26 and rapidly age-ing thanks to the job lol

we are currently in special measures (joy of joys) although the IT department and facilities were one of the few things to get a satisfactory scoring from ofsted

 

we have a total of 300 clients, pretty much all XP and 7 servers, all server 2003

my specialist area seems to be making hundreds of machines work on about £3.50, creating machines from nothing, rolling out complicated systems yesterday as no-one tells me whats going on and generally holding my head in my hands or banging it against walls, although lately i think i've made my way through the brick and found the re-inforced steel bunker lining behind

 

this summer i will have been here for 4 years

 

anyway, if i can be of help i will and i imagine most things i will find through searching

 

in whats left of my life by the time i leave here each day i like to play battlefield 2142 when i can (not too often), i tend to spend a lot of time on the owners club website for my car (SXOC) and i watch a lot of telly with the missus

My name is Richard (bet you didn't guess that), I am a technician at a large school in Brighton, my primary area of responsability is Windows Servers, although as with everyone I am sure I am also asked to do many other things.

 

I have just come up to 3 years working in School IT, two at my current job one at my previous. Before that I spent 4 years at university studying for BSc Computer Science, while I was studying I did an industrial placement with HP... and that pretty much sums up my IT experence, unless you count the random part time technical support job I did while at university.

Hi guys,

 

My name is Matt (no way!) and I'm 26. Currently working at Hanson School in Bradford as their Network Manager - been here for almost 4 years now. We're just in the process of a rather large network migration where we're moving from two seperate windows 2003/netware (sob) networks to a single windows 2003 mega network.

 

I've worked in education ICT support since leaving school at 18 - Dixons CTC (as it was then) employed me for a year as an ICT techie before I moved on to Yorkshire Martyrs Catholic College, had a 6 month stint at Provident Financial in an attempt to see how things worked in the private sector, went back to Yorkshire Martyrs for a couple of years after being headhunted and now I'm at Hanson.

 

In terms of certifcation, Im A+ and N+, keep looking at the MCSE but now MS have said its on its way out I don't know whether to bother going down that track or waiting for the new one to come about.

 

Skillsets, like I'm sure is the same with most of you - know bits about lots and lots about bits. I look forward to being able to get help on things I get stuck with as well as hopefully lending a hand to people who are stuck with problems I've come across before/know something about.

Hi all,

 

I'm a ICT Support Officer (since BSF, was a Technician), 18yrs old, worked for my college for the previous 5 years working my way up the food chain from trainee to the above, currently studying for my MCSE, just passed my A-Levels in ICT and start uni in Sept to study computer criminology and forensics.

 

One tip I would give, never start studying your MCSE whilst you are studying your A-Levels, it really kills the social life!

 

One benefit of studying and working at the same college is that you get to see both sides of the coin, you get to learn to beat certain staff members at there own act and just from reading the forums it is amazing how me and the rest of the team can relate to the experiences, then again working within education IT is certainly that, good or bad?..I am undecided!!!
