currently searching for a solution to this aswell from what i have found windows 7 needs to veryify certificate chains with the windowsupdate website directly via port 80, when you are locked behind a RBC internet connection with only filtered access via a proxy this seems to fail as it doesnt use the IE proxy settings properly

hi guys just had this, new HP laptop with vista business on, getting a mite frustrated with it, however i found my solution it came bundled with the trial of norton AV and personal firewall, disable (or uninstall) this and all of a sudden SIMS works

yeah its mapped to the S: drive *edit* odd, i've just looked at the settings for that install (simsinst) and cant see any reference to c:\sims it all seems to be pointing to the right places however, i have to say i never noticed that settings button tucked away in that corner before, thanks

the installation of which you speak, is that the client installation or the server installation?

am i sure i did what now? i have had absolutely naff all experience of managing SIMS and nothing to do with its setup or anything, however, as the ICT Systems Manager i have to "support it from a technical viewpoint" and the office manager who is the SIMS manager "supports it from a non-technical viewpoint" so, the office manager has always been involved in the setting up, updating etc etc and still does, i have to work on the connectivity issues and installation of the software itself so um, which SIMS installer wizard? if it was the original server installation of SIMS then that was either done by the office manager or a CAPITA support person, so, no it was probably done wrong and thus is there a way to rectify it?

ahhh a cunning plan evolved resulting from that post i have copied a correctly configured local connect.ini and have added a copy command to the logon script to pull it off a network share and overwrite the local copy messy and not as good as it being set properly to locate it straight from install but should help for now

Hi fellow techy peoples i've recently had the joyous task of loading SIMS on all the staff laptops etc for the wonderful e-registration, however there is something that is bugging me quite considerably once installed SIMS always defaults the location of the connect.ini file to c:\SIMS rather than S:\SIMS it also seems to do this for each profile on a machine, which is rather annoying if staff share a machine or hand a laptop to another member of staff for use is there a way to modify something in the installer that will tell SIMS that the default location to find the connect.ini file is S:\SIMS ? thanks Pete *edit* i did do a few searches but couldnt find anything much to do with specifying the location of the connect.ini pre-install

hi to all the geeky types who also work in the farce known as the british education system i work for a medium sized secondary in barrow-in-furness, cumbria (thorncliffe school) i'm 26 and rapidly age-ing thanks to the job lol we are currently in special measures (joy of joys) although the IT department and facilities were one of the few things to get a satisfactory scoring from ofsted we have a total of 300 clients, pretty much all XP and 7 servers, all server 2003 my specialist area seems to be making hundreds of machines work on about £3.50, creating machines from nothing, rolling out complicated systems yesterday as no-one tells me whats going on and generally holding my head in my hands or banging it against walls, although lately i think i've made my way through the brick and found the re-inforced steel bunker lining behind this summer i will have been here for 4 years anyway, if i can be of help i will and i imagine most things i will find through searching in whats left of my life by the time i leave here each day i like to play battlefield 2142 when i can (not too often), i tend to spend a lot of time on the owners club website for my car (SXOC) and i watch a lot of telly with the missus so um, howdy and on to the next challenge/farce/chaos

hey fellow techie peeps, my first post in here i'm currently using my HP NX6125 that i have had for about 18 months or so, its an AMD turion 64 ML40 with a radeon Xpress 200M I upgraded it not long after getting it with an additional 6 cell battery so it will work for over 6 hours of use, upgraded the ram to 1.5Gb with 256 thieved by the graphics card and a seagate 100Gb 7200rpm hard drive its currently functioning as my main workstation as my main workstations PSU fan decided to start spinning once every 5 minutes and has ended up frying, at the very least, the mainboard. the NX6125 has taken a fair bit of abuse and being lugged around all over the place its not the lightest of machines and i often find myself dreaming about a super lightweight viao, but then you have to trade weight, power and costs and i'm not the most patient of people it was also a surprisingly affordable unit, if memory serves it was around £700 when we got it with an 80Gb 5400rpm hard drive and 512Mb RAM
