SiFor Posted January 13, 2007 Posted January 13, 2007 Hello everyone, You could say I'm another Bett Recruit as I visited the show on Friday and after a short chat with I think GrumbleDook decided to join only to realise after trying to register that I already had an account registered back in 2005. It must have been one of those register and then totally forgotten about moments because I'd totally forgotten about EduGeek.net and that at some point I’d taken the time to register. Anyway, My name is Simon I'm the network manager at Shirebrook School in Mansfield, Nottinghamshire and also the owner of a certification community forum http://www.certforums.co.uk thats dedicated to giving help and advice to anyone studying or thinking of studying for any of the main professional IT certifications such as A+ Network+, MCSA, MCSE and many others. I’m guessing that’s the reason I’d forgotten about EduGeek as running a community website takes plenty of time and energy as the guys that run this place will know first hand. So now I’ve found EduGeek again I’ll try and remember to keep popping in and taking part in this great community you have here and also try and make some kind of contribution. Keep up the good work I’ve done plenty of reading over the past hour and picked up some good advice on the way. Catch you again soon, SiFor.
Andie Posted January 14, 2007 Posted January 14, 2007 Nice to see more females joining, Andie your job sounds so similar to mine I almost thought it was me posting! Yes, but I bet you're better qualified! I see what you mean about the similar job, though. I was so pleased to find another primary techie who recognised my job description that I did a bit of digging in other postings and yes, I've been through the projector lamps and getting info from SIMS (well, Integris in our case) bit as well! And the trying to sort out a new computer suite, despite not being really at the correct level of management for it. And....I could go on and on! The worst part of the job is actually the isolation of being a one-woman-band. Maybe Edugeek might save my crumbling sanity. I'm still looking for postings about I'm a 'mum of teenagers, they wake you up when they come home' postings so I can join in with them! May be able to help with this one in the not-too-distant future!!!
witch Posted January 15, 2007 Posted January 15, 2007 That'll be me then - three teenagers: 14 (f), !6 (m) and 18 (m) they wake me up when they come in -if of course they come in at all! Seem to prefer other people's floors to the home comforts! Can start up a general topic on teenagers and how to cope if you like!

I love Pink Floyd and have done since I was about 15 or 16, I managed to get to see them play at Live8 with all the band members and I've seen Dave Gilmour live a couple of times and I was at the Hyde Park Calling gig last summer with Roger Waters and Nick Mason playing. They did a few of the old classics for the first hour then came back and performing Pink Floyd’s legendary ‘The Dark Side of the Moon’ in full. That was amazing!!!

SiFor Posted January 15, 2007 Posted January 15, 2007 I think I was around 16 when Pink Floyd toured for the Division Bell album so I'd not been listening to them for long. I saved and saved my money with the illusion I would have enough for a ticket, not a chance. Still I do remember it was live on the BBC and on Radio1 at the same time so I watched it with the sound down on the TV and the hi-fi on full blast. It was the closest I was going to get for another 11 years
tech_master Posted January 15, 2007 Posted January 15, 2007 guess this shoulda been where i posted first well i'm pete i'm 21 an in birmingham somewhere i work in a school (that shall remain annonymous for now ) .... as a ICT technician funnily enough i was refered by a friend after spending hours looking for a site like this and giving up then today got given the address an here you all are i'm glad Dos_Box set this site up casue i was beginnin to think i may have to set one up myself an with that daunting thourght off my mind i can say i an very glad to be here an hope to have a good time i'm not that gr8 at forums but i'll try i love VMware server an have been using it since feb 06 (VMware-server-installer-e.x.p-20925.exe) an its one of the most useful free pieces of software out there by far i'll try out most new software (if its free and interesting) pete FYI: finally i'll say i can spell sort of an my grammar is exelent when i am trying but this is a forum an this is a comuter an my keybard skills have degraded over the years(also for ne one whos a real geek you may notice that my brain processes what it thinks i have typed before i type it so sometimes the letters of the words appear but in the wrong order casue i am watching the keyboard and not the screen) so please excuse my inability to type spell or gramatise my writing casue i will just be honest now an say i probly wont fix it an if you read all that WD - i know i wouldent

The reason I say this, to all members, is that we are a generous and friendly bunch and often offer to show you around our sites - we like to show off our funky equipment It's also great if everyone can add themselves to the EduGeek map (see link on left - http://www.edugeek.net/index.php?name=Map ).

amyr Posted January 16, 2007 Posted January 16, 2007 Well I'm Amy, 24, ICT Tech at Sandling Primary in Maidstone, Kent and another whose job doesn't match their job description! (And yes, anything with a plug is classed as ICT and so therefore my job to fix!) I've also got a degree in Comp Sci from Portsmouth Uni. When I'm not at work, I'm working on developing my webdevelopment skills or out riding a horse...or walking the dog. Current project for half term will be building my own site and getting sky working with live sound on my media centre. I spotted Edugeek @ BETT, so thought I'd join when I got home as always looking for good places to find answers to niggling questions given that I am the entire ICT department (apart from the ICT Coordinator who is a full time teacher as well!) Hmm Binary...I've forgotten all that I knew from 1st yr degree so that would take me a while to work out (doesn't help that i didn't learn a lot either)!
