well that seems too simple to me but i'll give it ago here was me thinki i was missin the sql administrative tools

so i have a very old server thats sat there running sophus and a load of old profile data that i am beginning to archive off (*hopes the copy is still running \ was successfull*) i would ideally like to have this not just to run sophus as that seams a bit of a waste but if i can get WSUS on it that would be usefull :oops: ran the MBSA today and every computer it scaned was "Unable to compleate scan" OR "Severe Risk" so i think its about time we got some updates out to these computers to fix at least some of the problems the sophus server (called eportal just to confuse everyone) has MSSQL on it (2000 as its only a win 2000 server) i know you can install WSUS on 2k but i dont know how to add the instance for the SQL ? not ever used M$ sql before so this is all new to me i have also considered making it a member server as at the moment it is a DC an processes loads of logins whereas the PDC could do all that as it sits there not doing alot all day long *NOTE : this server is only running MS SQL for sophus not for the admin network i have already checked this the admin server runs sql itself i dunno if there linked in anyway yet also dont know how to check* any help with this would be usefull espically if anyone has a combined wsus & sophus server but the backup of the data will probly take till the end of this week at this rate an span over a fare few dvd's as the tape drive seems to hate me so i have no confidence in it at all

well i was right admin will be upgraded tommrow all the backups were done today an tommrow there goinfor it ignoreing all my compaints so when it all goes wrong i will ignore them an as for adobe reader needin up be updated to V8 i think thats the least of my worries yet if i do it on the admin pc's least they will think i have done it

it workedddddd !!!! spent the last half hour playin with it on vmware but unfortunatly not all that impressed it runs a webbased management utility for the server which is ok an probably does its job very well but seems more like something for a new network or a complete network upgrade and/or somewhere that doesent have a technician but it is possible to get it runnin on vmware

well all looks good its copied all cd files and is now installing 2k3 server it would appear ? will post again when its finished (if it finishes)

well this is a optimistic thread dont think we have upgraded yet (perhapse cause am in birmingham ?) an perhapse i wont will till you guys are pleased with it although the business manager will probly go over my head an install it herself without talkin to me so we'll have to wait an see ..........

can i ask how far u got? after a bit of messin about its just moaned it wants 20GB need to move some files round for that kinda space

cd at 43% (writing SLOWWW) so will give it a go ne way an if not may as well try it on a dead pc from school tomrow if i get chance

i wasent gonna but with the offer of drewling over 'funky equipment' i'm hooked yet er appart from birmingham i dunno what to put casue i live a fare distance (well tis to me, may be drivin one day) from work an wander arround alot but yea ok a general location will be added also the map thing is cool seen it on a few other sites but not added to one yet
