Cool, got hooked on [adult swim] when i was on holiday in florida earlier this year. Think i may have to devise a cunning plan to get a MythTV box installed at my parents house so i can leach their sky connection. Muhahaha! :twisted:

Approx 280 desktop PCs - soon to become 380 and a mostly Windows 2003 Server AD network with about 5 servers - the last two NT 4.0 boxes are being moved over next week to 2003. No laptops - laptops are dished out to staff and they are then their responsibility, but don't go near our LAN.
sidewinder Posted July 27, 2006 Posted July 27, 2006 Im a Network Administrator in a large school in West Berkshire Have around 400 desktops and 250 laptops, all Win XP Server 2003 AD network, 5 of our servers (2 DC's), 2 SIMS servers, and an OSX server Full school wireless coverage pretty much, all Cisco AP's with a Radius server Technology college so a LOT of money is spent, theres probably only a handful of PC's that arnt P4's now, all laptops are Centrinos, everything seems to get replaced so quick... 1700 students inc sixth form, about 200 staff members Lucky enough to have a big team, theres the network manager, me, and 4 technicians (one of which is one of my best mates so its quite fun) Im 22, started here as a technician straight out of college about 19 months ago, network administrator left last November and I got the job Thats about it I think, just really happy to have found this forum, as some of the dreadful educational software we have to use gets quite frustrating, and its good to have somewhere to get help

I just want to give a big "Thank You" for making this site. I was killing myself trying to apply business world methods in a school environment. This has been a great resource while setting up the school’s new Windows 2003 Server and rolling out Windows 2000 to over 30 ancient PCs that were running Windows 98. (Some even had an install date in ’97!!) That is, once I got past the way you guys misspell and misuse words.

Happy in my job, well paid, good supportive SMT and staff (with a few expections!). Leading a good team of five very talented individuals and between us we look after the 150 LFT's, 500 or so curriculum machines, AV equipment (every classroom has at least a projector) and large, site-wide wireless network. We also look after the IT for some local primary schools who pay us to do so. I have a habit of posting essays instead of quick responses so I shall apologise and stop there.

It involves a sharp intake of breath and slowly raising my arm in a pointing gesture whilst generating a horrified shudder whilst simultaneously generating a wail of 'NoooooOOOOO'. The typical response is 'Is there something wrong?'. At least it gets their attention.

Altair Posted August 8, 2006 Posted August 8, 2006 You should have seen the dust bunny that was living in there. The CD drive was clogged, the blades on all the fans were coated, and the PCB boards were all brown. I thought it best to just let it die in peace. For the rest, all I can say is I am very glad I got RIS working. It is nice to be able to just boot a floppy, select which setup I want, and then walk away. Half an hour later the OS and applications are installed, updated, and ready for use.

I currently administrate a school in Ohio that consists roughly 3000 kids. We have some pretty amazing technology here and are always improving it as we can. I am primarily a Cisco Switch geek and have been using Microsoft Active directory in large environments for the past 3 years. So hopefully I will be able to contribute well to this board and please feel free to ask me any questions. _dave

build319 Posted September 5, 2006 Posted September 5, 2006 Hi Mark, We have two people on staff including myself. That does seem to be alot but we have it split between Windows(7 - 12) and Mac(1-6), I handle the windows side and just supervise the Mac side of the network. Since this is so big, we have everything in the windows portion running active directory and the mac side has its own LDAP service. I try and keep everything managed by group policy so we can keep down any managment hiccups and most pieces of software just install the second you log into the network. That helps
