I'm SBM in a maintained Primary school and originally registered on the site for the GDPR discussions (ah, what a joy the whole thing is!) Having browsed that area of the forum for a couple of hours this evening, I'm now looking at the Aladdin's cave of delights that reside elsewhere on the site. If only I'd found edugeek earlier . . .

 

To show myself as a complete ignoramus from an early stage . . . how do I register 'thanks' to another poster?

Hi all, I work in a school and teach computing. I also support the school on day to day tech stuff but out source the servers/network as above my knowledge lol

 

I’m also looking at being Data Protection Officer for my school.

 

I’m primary school based

 

I am afraid that you can't be the Data Protection Officer for the school you work in. The DPO has to be independent of the school staff and IT team. Otherwise you are signing off your own security, and handling complaints about your own issues. Possibly a Governor could have the role, if you have one with the right background, and they don't have another role which involves accessing or using personal data. The ICO will certainly not accept a teacher or IT staff member being a DPO. You are disqualified on both counts. Unless you give up your teaching post and IT work you can't be the DPO.

I don’t deal with anything that would be a conflict. Fixing a smart board or making the sound work etc doesn’t mean I can’t be one I don’t deal with the tech side they recommend stuff it then goes to head and then tell them yes or now and Create tickets for them when come site. Welcome, pull up a chair, be careful about which mug you use for a cuppa ... not because people are precious about them but we think some need a bit of a wash ... one asked me about when it would get full admin rights on its school network the other day.

 

Don’t worry about feeling drained, confused, frustrated about *anything* in schools ... we have plenty of packs of EduHobnobs to share.

I am someone unemployed (which I'm ashamed of) who has a moderate interest in computing. I somewhat collect anything laptop-related, even toy ones. I've just recently got a Fizzbook Spin NL1 and a Dell Latitude D430 up and running with new hard drives. And I found this site through a Google search of finding drivers for my Fizzbook Spin, so I thought of joining and here I am.

Welcome @Vaardu - I've had more than my fair share of issues with the Fizzbook Spin! Fortunately for me we've got rid of all ours now so that's one support nightmare over. I hope you find work soon.

I lurked for a long time prior to joining about seven years ago and in all that time never posted a word! However, because I’m ‘resting’ after leaving my job and moving literally from one end of the country to other I thought I’d take time to say hello and thank everyone for being such a valuable resource over the years.

Jersey is the new one, I'd been in the Outer Hebrides since 2010 and Lancaster prior to that. Still adjusting to the contrast!

I know Lancaster well. I went to university there and so did my daughter

 

As for the Hebrides... @ZeroHour, our site admin, can challenge you for remoteness as he’s from Shetland! He only migrated as far south as Edinburgh though Jersey must be like another planet!!

Ah..small world. I too went to Lancaster University and then worked there for seventeen years managing IT in the Geography Dept/Environment Centre. Spent the last seven years looking after schools IT on the isle of Harris.

 

Jersey is definitely different, my wife got a job here with the States hence the move. Unfortunately it looks like I'll have find work with one of the off shore finance companies here, feels a bit like selling my soul!
