TMODAlpha Posted September 28, 2012 Posted September 28, 2012 Hi all, We currently operate a paper based room system, where the first department to get the sheets win. Until I get it back I cant vet what they are booking and a lot of time gets wasted where other departments cant use the room. What have you guys used in the past? Preferably for free or as cheap as possible. Thanks
chris_uk Posted September 28, 2012 Posted September 28, 2012 We use, Room Booking System - Online Room Booking Software it has been great for taking it out of ICT Support to manage. 1
Abaddon Posted September 28, 2012 Posted September 28, 2012 We also use that. It's been great so far, and one less thing my dept has to worry about. Bonus! 1
gshaw Posted September 28, 2012 Posted September 28, 2012 MRBS... free, open source and highly customisable
TMODAlpha Posted September 28, 2012 Author Posted September 28, 2012 I had looked at that. Can I add block booking that are set each week? So where IT lessons are?
HMCTech Posted September 28, 2012 Posted September 28, 2012 Another for Room Booking System - Online Room Booking Software it is great for ICT rooms and Theatres. The support is also brilliant and we have had several features we need put in to the systems over the past year. 1
Jawloms Posted September 28, 2012 Posted September 28, 2012 We also use and love Room Booking System - Online Room Booking Software. We now use their parent's evening system too. Worth every penny! 1

Max_Power Posted September 28, 2012 Posted September 28, 2012 Another +1 for Room Booking System - Online Room Booking Software. Integrates with SIMS, emails people when a new booking is made, LDAP functionality - it ticks all the right boxes. 1
rush_tech Posted September 28, 2012 Posted September 28, 2012 I had looked at that. Can I add block booking that are set each week? So where IT lessons are? Yes you can block book IT lessons in we use it although its not 2 week timetable friendly
notalot Posted September 28, 2012 Posted September 28, 2012 +1 for MRBS. Yes you can block book IT lessons in we use it although its not 2 week timetable friendly Whilst this is true MRBS doesnt like a 2 week timetable out of the box, there has been several posts with methods that work to use a 2 week timetable, we for instance use a modified excel spreadsheet to do it, but I think there is a PHP method of doing it now, Just cant put my hands on the thread at the moment.
siuko Posted September 28, 2012 Posted September 28, 2012 We did use MRBS but have now switched to Devizes School Online Booking System It is much quicker when inputting and changing timetabled bookings (which is my job to input) Doesnt look quite as nice as mrbs though
2097 Posted September 29, 2012 Posted September 29, 2012 I loved MRBs , it was great The ldap bind was great , I also used htaccess also to stop people looking in
speckytecky Posted September 29, 2012 Posted September 29, 2012 (edited) Great to see the Devizes School system being recommended. I know the two guys who developed it. Both salt of the Earth. For a tender donation to the school it leaves me wondering why anyone would even be looking at another system. TMODAlpha Posted September 29, 2012 Author Posted September 29, 2012 Dont need a 2 week timetable luckily.
mb2k01 Posted September 29, 2012 Posted September 29, 2012 I use Room Booking Software | Room & Resource Booking System | SchoolBooking - very good price-wise and have a forthcoming lettings feature too
meastaugh1 Posted September 29, 2012 Posted September 29, 2012 We also went with RBS: www.roombookingsystem.co.uk/ when we decided to free up IT rooms and have fewer (non-discrete ICT) lessons timetabled in them. We also limit staff to booking rooms no further than two weeks in the future, to limit block/repeated bookings with no clear purpose. RBS pulls our 2-week timetable with alternative curriculum and cover from SIMS each night. Service and support, on the whole, is excellent. 1
HMCTech Posted October 1, 2012 Posted October 1, 2012 We also limit staff to booking rooms no further than two weeks in the future, to limit block/repeated bookings with no clear purpose. I keep trying to push this through as come September when the new timetabled rooms are entered into the system July seems to fill up very quickly....
meastaugh1 Posted October 1, 2012 Posted October 1, 2012 I keep trying to push this through as come September when the new timetabled rooms are entered into the system July seems to fill up very quickly.... That particular was an SLT initiative, so not much pushing required in our case.
CyBeRkId2002 Posted October 1, 2012 Posted October 1, 2012 We use Home Access Plus for all of our Room and Resource bookings
mattianuk Posted October 1, 2012 Posted October 1, 2012 We use Home Access Plus for all of our Room and Resource bookings WHS! Loving it.
Grey-gear Posted October 1, 2012 Posted October 1, 2012 I use Venue booker. It's quiet a lot but we use it for all of our bookings (sports hall booking, Mini bus etc) and it is simple to uses, you could see about having one booking system across school and SLT member to pay for it.
DaveMurphy Posted October 14, 2012 Posted October 14, 2012 Done this via our old Frog VLE in the past for room and resource bookings - worked well but there's some better Opensource solutions out there.
