gumbygaz Posted September 18, 2012 Posted September 18, 2012 Anybody else using this: https://www.reflectionapp.com/ Just tried the demo and was frankly amazed. Very simple to install, no app needed for the iphone as just uses airplay and connected to it straight away, even using the camera was pretty much lag free! Be great as a wireless document camera. Certainly cheaper than AppleTVs for each classroom. The demo is only 10mins though so couldn't fully test it, I'll probably get a licence or two and test but just wondered if anybody else using it in classroom? Any known issues etc? Cheers Gaz
cromertech Posted September 18, 2012 Posted September 18, 2012 Not using it but I will certainly take a look. Thanks for the link. I have a science teacher here who I think will be very interested.
tmcd35 Posted September 18, 2012 Posted September 18, 2012 Have you tried AirServer: AirServer - The game console for Mac/PC has arrived I'd be interested to know how the two compare. I've used AirServer at home and it seems to function quiet well. We're looking at buying a few licenses here for staff laptops.
gumbygaz Posted September 18, 2012 Author Posted September 18, 2012 ooohh not seen that one either. We've still got some WinXP teacher PC/Laptop so thats the bonus of the ReflectionApp. But will have a play with airserver too, good to have a rival company for price negotiation! Cheers
tj2419 Posted September 18, 2012 Posted September 18, 2012 we are in the process of trying to package up airserver so i'll feedback once we have it up and running.
gumbygaz Posted September 18, 2012 Author Posted September 18, 2012 Cool cheers, yeah just used Airserver on a win7 machine. Very nice too, needed Bonjour services installed too as a seperate install so don't know if that hinders the packaging element? The relfection one was already an MSI without a bonjour install needed. So not sure if it'd be an easier install - interesting stuff though. Impressed with both though!
tmcd35 Posted September 18, 2012 Posted September 18, 2012 That MSI is interesting. I think I'll d/l reflection and give it a try before we finalise on a purchase.
Achandler Posted September 18, 2012 Posted September 18, 2012 Reflection stores the serial number and settings within the c:\Users\%USERNAME% etc which means if doesn't store it unless you use roaming profiles, in which case it would store the room name as well... We have 5 licenses for it, but this problem is a real pain. I created a script that copies the settings over when the reflection is run to combat this issue. The good news is they are meant to be creating a version of reflection where this isn't a problem, according to the support person anyway.
cromertech Posted September 21, 2012 Posted September 21, 2012 Response back from the science teacher who has been trialling it is positive, no sign of slow down when using the camera or any other apps that he is now keen to demo to the students (including a decibel meter that he can now demonstrate distances from sound source with). Don't think the serial number will be a problem as he only uses the one machine and takes it with him to other rooms.
kennysarmy Posted October 11, 2012 Posted October 11, 2012 I can't seem to get on their website to trial the windows version of this... Is anyone else having issues ?
exim Posted October 12, 2012 Posted October 12, 2012 interesting. teachers would be foolish to display their personal iphone to a class though.
