... handheld vacuum cleaner!

In our professions we obviously have to put up with a hell of a lot of dust, we have an unbranded pile of junk that struggles to suck up anything tbh. Wondered if any of you could recommend a good robust one that has served you well? :) (and maybe even had some decent nozzles for cleaning out PC cases)

See, I have a rebuttal for whenever somebody uses "You don't look at the mantle when you're poking the fire"..

Poke that fire all you want, but when the house isn't cold, the fire isn't burning, and you're gonna wish the mantlepiece around it looks good.

On topic, I've never really liked to use hoovers in my PC's. Usually I just take a medium-sized paintbrush and give everything a good wipe off, having a hoover nearby to pick up all the airborned dust.

We have a Dyson at home, it lasts for 60 seconds on one blast and you get 6 minutes out of one charge, thats loads of time to get things clean.

We just hit the PCs with our compressor...yet to see dust/skin/snot that can resist the force of many PSI. Keyboards get soaked in foaming cleaner first, then airblasted dry, then treated to a sprayover with sanitizer spray (lemon fresh), then airblasted again.

PCs - just insert the nozzle, dial up the pressure, pull the trigger and watch the system eject clouds of dust from every possible exit. Facemask essential.

Does this not knacker the fans? I once tried to clean a heatskink with a hoover and it overspan the fan and burnt it out :-(

We have a compressor for just this task, but to be honest i'd rather be getting rid of the dust than simply redistributing it.....and it's just not productive having to wheel the compressor outside every time we need to use it. Much easier to have a hand held vacuum to do the job :)

My dad has one of these for removing mildew from old books. They are very good.

:) my father in law had one of them and he binned it same day was rubbish.

Not that we've found...Our Dells are coming up to the 4 year marker, 2 cleans per year on average..the only fan issue I've found is I have one with a knackered bearing, but..well, it's not dead, just a bit noisy.

I actually tend to leave the systems running while I do it..probably not recommended practise, but heyho..seems to work well.. :)

We have a compressor that we we store in the premises workshop and is plugged in next to the door so we can easily do it outside! Brilliant best £130 i spent about 4 years ago when buying the cans of air at £3 a pop!!

MetroVac ED-500 DataVac Electric Duster

Saw one of these the other day, fantastic tool, powerfull enough to shift most things. Going to see if we can get one.

A much better idea than a standard Vacuum Cleaner that generates a lot of static. You can get proper hand-held anti-static vacuum cleaners but they're around the £200 mark.

lol, cleaning the insides of PCs. My PCs are 5 to 6 years old and hardly have visible dust in them. Just have better cleaning staff to do your rooms. Keyboards take too long to clean just buy more and buy black ones.

I used to buy £5 air dusters and paint brushes but modern(er) PCs dont seem to get that dusty as they don't require such insane cooling.

I haven't done a good airdusting since my PII days.
