"Everyone has the right to freedom of expression. This right shall include freedom to hold opinions and to receive and impart information and ideas without inference by public authority and regardless of frontiers. This Article shall not prevent States from requiring the licensing of broadcasting, television or cinema enterprises."
rich_tech Posted June 15, 2012 Posted June 15, 2012 I got sent it on MSN last night and saw it also linked on twitter, I read through the website, its a bit sad that they pulled the plug on a schoolgirl, but you can see why they have done it, looking at the lunches, some of them were not exactly good looking meals on the plate, trouble is though, by taking any action other than improving the meals, they are only going to create a worse situation for themselves I felt reading through it all.

witch Posted June 15, 2012 Posted June 15, 2012 I heard her father being interviewed on Radio 4 this morning and he said that the school was NOT at fault at all, they were happy for her to be taking pictures (she did rate some meals 10/10) and had been very supportive of her blog, but it was the Local Authority who had told the school that it wasnt acceptable! So please, let's not start knocking the school - it wasn't their decision. Radio 4 asked Argyll and Bute council for a statement but got none. 1

It's no wonder kids see no problem with junk food because a mcdonalds looks healthier than some of those meals and certainly the portion size is bigger. The meals from other countries however, WOW!

Thats the problem, I always prefer to eat a McD meal then the school food which some times has been cooked first thing in the morning - i hate eating food which was cooked 4 hours ago. McD might be unhealthy but at least I feel like I have eaten something and cooked in the last 10 minutes.

SteveBentley Posted June 15, 2012 Posted June 15, 2012 In particular, the photographic images uploaded appear to only represent a fraction of the choices available to pupils, so a decision has been made by the council to stop photos being taken in the school canteen. Starting their own blog which shows these options which they claim are available would have been a much better move from a PR perspective.

If the evidence presented caused staff to fear for their jobs surely it indicates that the situation is cause for concern and that the staff recognise that the situation is so bad that they should fear for their job. If, as the council maintain, the photos don't demonstrate the need for improvement then why are the staff worried. If the documented incidences of poor quality or unappealing food are accurate then they should be saying "thank you for bring this to our attention, we'll sort it out" not "you're causing our staff anxiety by highlighting their shortcoming which we don't recognise". 1
