LosOjos Posted April 17, 2012 Posted April 17, 2012 After much cynicism and doubt I'd ever see the mythical beast - it came today! Very excited to get home and have a play Anybody else got theirs yet? 1
featured_spectre Posted April 17, 2012 Posted April 17, 2012 I'm waiting for a few weeks before I buy, but when I do I'm buying full kit and case etc

LosOjos Posted April 17, 2012 Author Posted April 17, 2012 Not yet. And I was one of the 6am crowd! Me too, at there refreshing the page from 5:50AM, part of the reason I'd given up hope of getting one! not yet im on both companies lists but not heard owt but standard youre in the queue messages from either. Mildly annoying but as riscos for pi is still not out (last time i checked) im holding on lol Daft question, but have you checked your spam? I was lucky, I rarely check my spam folder but an email from my dad hadn't come through so I checked and just so happened to have one from RS with my unique order code in it - placed the order Sunday and got an email just now from Parcel Force saying it's been left with my neighbour. I'm going to put Debian on it first to give it a test drive, but an XBMC media centre is my ultimate goal...
Oaktech Posted April 17, 2012 Posted April 17, 2012 I should have one in the next few days (or there will be trouble) as cpc have charged me!
JJonas Posted April 17, 2012 Posted April 17, 2012 not yet - 6am for me too. Was registering an interest with RS while everybody else was tweeting "RS - How do we buy?" have an order placed with Farnell but have 135 day lead time on it
LosOjos Posted April 17, 2012 Author Posted April 17, 2012 pics or we wont believe you!!! Gimme a couple of hours technically, my neighbour currently has an R-Pi lol but I plan to change that around 5.30!
Arcath Posted April 17, 2012 Posted April 17, 2012 I got an email a couple of weeks ago saying I could now order it and I did, still waiting on a dispatch email... out of interest who did you order from?
LosOjos Posted April 17, 2012 Author Posted April 17, 2012 I got an email a couple of weeks ago saying I could now order it and I did, still waiting on a dispatch email... out of interest who did you order from? I ordered from RS and paid via Paypal (instant payment, no 3 day wait for clearing )
Rozzer Posted April 17, 2012 Posted April 17, 2012 I am gonna get one when he demand drops a bit. Looks like a lot of fun and potential
Dos_Box Posted April 17, 2012 Posted April 17, 2012 Whats a Raspberry Pi? Please be joking. Please be joking. Please be joking! 1
SimpleSi Posted April 17, 2012 Posted April 17, 2012 @CHR1S You win best troll post of the month award Si (I was getting emails from RS but not had any in the last week of so ) 1
nickjelly Posted April 17, 2012 Posted April 17, 2012 Mine arrived today. Luckily my neighbour signed for it. The kids were encouragingly excited to open the package tonight. Will be installing Debian and taking it for a whirl tomorrow.
Admiral208 Posted April 18, 2012 Posted April 18, 2012 an XBMC media centre is my ultimate goal... This is what I am going to do. I have registered an interest with both companies but heard nothing yet.
Popular Post LosOjos Posted April 18, 2012 Author Popular Post Posted April 18, 2012 (edited) Here you go, pictures for your geeking pleasure! Note that the Gamestation card is standard credit card sized to give you an idea of width and height, and the SD card to give you an idea of depth. Also, that SD sticks out a few centimetres when plugged in; worth noting if you plan to build your own case as I do! Edited April 18, 2012 by LosOjos pics were in the wrong order 9
Rawns Posted April 18, 2012 Posted April 18, 2012 Will deficiently get one of these when they are easier to come by and when someone has a stable XBMC O/S to run on it!!!
zag Posted April 18, 2012 Posted April 18, 2012 Not sure why everyone cares about xbmc on this. It will be horribly slow navigating as it cant hardware accelerate that.

Seems to run smoothly from this demo here. XBMC running on Raspberry Pi | Raspberry Pi Ideal for sticking in the bedroom or kitchen. Edited April 18, 2012 by Rawns

As @Rawns link shows, looks smooth to me. Also, check out this video to see it running Quake3 - this thing is very impressive for it's price and size!
Oaktech Posted April 18, 2012 Posted April 18, 2012 The other option is openELEC which is much lighter to start with, it's essentially an single purpose OS. OpenELEC on RaspBerry Pi. Our first ARM device supported! | OpenELEC - The living room PC for everyone
