Its a great app, but the backend has been unstable for us a few times. The teachers absolutely love it though as they can also use their iphones or androids to take registers now.

It's just recently been added to the android market then I take it. How does it work then, the app is free but obviously the product isn't, do you buy licences for x number of concurrent connections...?

It uses both GroupCall Exporter and GroupCall Emerge Own management software. Each device is registered to the Server and it uses Xporter to pull information and put information in Sims. Its Per Device License not Per User/Concurrent.

Just for clarity and so I don't end up repeating mysself later.. WebFolder SD will run on pretty much any device that has a browser interface. The screen appearance differs slightly on certain devices (Mobiles retrieve the mobile interface) and the different method of data entry for the iPad (toch screen, no right click etc.) has required its own slightly modified interface also. But it does work on all of them (Windows, Android, iPxxx).. without the need of an App. Edited March 9, 2012 by Bromcom_John service changed to Interface. The groupcall app is smooth, touch friendly and really quick. Thats why we chose it. In contrast the Sims SLG registration input method (via the web) is awful with a touchsceen, impossible to use, too small and slow. I'd love to see how WebFolder SD works on tablets as we are coming up to the end of our first year with Groupcall and would like to see the options. I'm not really interested in "oldschool" web interfaces though, its all about Apps these days in my eyes unless you are using some awesome HTML5 trickery like the Financial Times app which to be fair to it feels like an app

I don't think it will replace it. I think Configurator is for small scale deployments without an 'Apple Server'. 1

Sorry to be a spoil sport, yes it is very good quality, but it's also a massive waste of space as it's going to be downscaled enormously before it becomes an icon...

Still won't be convincing me there's any actual benefit in schools with the difference from 2 to 3. The biggest benefit they have is low cost Ipad2s.

localzuk Posted March 20, 2012 Posted March 20, 2012 (edited) The human eye in most cases simply won't notice any of the details. So, I don't really get the point. Websites will still be using low dpi imagery, and fonts. Videos are still up to 1080p at the moment, which looks fine on a 50" screen, let alone a 9.7" screen. Maybe its just me, but I don't get the point of these high density screens for consumer use. For some numbers - from what I've read in many places, the human eye is capable of seeing 240ppi. So, 264ppi is higher than the human eye can perceive... Edited March 20, 2012 by localzuk

A rubber band will probably be shipped out soon to all iPad 3 owners How on earth was this one missed in Apple's testing labs?
