Very good release, everything you could of wished for.

The most interesting thing is the ipad 2 drop in price.

For 250 quid each these things are going to start showing up all over schools now.

Just as important then, is the release yesterday of the Apple Configurator, looking at it now, its looking pretty good, just wondered if this replaces profile manager?

Must say that the new iPhoto app is seriously good as well. Only had a quick play but it's does wonders on some of my photos! And the fact you can snap pictures on your iPhone and then transfer them straight to the iPad for editing is cool. Even more so for those who like to take holidays and see/share their photos ASAP. :)

Wow!

In all the commotion I didn't notice the release of Apple configurator

Apple Configurator app gives schools and businesses tools to manage iPad deployments | The Verge

Amid all the hubbub about the new iPad, Apple has released a new OS X app that's made for IT administrators to easily manage and deploy iOS devices. It's called Apple Configurator, and with it up to 30 iPads, iPhones, and iPod touch devices at once can be updated, configured, and more.

I though the official UK price ipad2 was £329? Surely it would be crazy not to spend an extra £70 quid and get the new model?

Yup, the cheapest iPad 2 is £329 inc VAT, £274 ex VAT.

£70 might not seem a lot, but multiply it by a trolley full? You've suddenly got an extra £2100 to spend.

Well I still think it's too big but the improved screen is seriously tempting me. The shocking display on the ipad1/2 was the main thing which kept me from buying it (at £400, xga resolution is just terrible).

Not really, I have an ipad 2 and it works fine for educational use such as taking registers for Sims or using it as a visualiser or to play movies on the projectors.

At that price point you could buy 4 for a grand. It will be very interesting to see how they are bought in schools.

Of course the network manager will need an Ipad 3 to test out just in case ;)

@zag just a bit off topic, how do you use ipad to take registers on sims? we are thinking of going to lesson monitor on sims rather than pars, if we can take registers on ipads then we might start deploying them to teachers too.

Citrix i'd expect. I don't know of an app for it but its something I would expect Capita are looking into such a market for tablets or at least a GUI designed around touch interfaces for Windows 8

Well, I'm trying to buy 10 for the school. I've been waiting all day for an actual solid price for the iPad 2 given the release of "the new iPad", but nothing. My usual suppliers can't tell me because THEIR suppliers don't know, and even my local Apple educational rep can't give me a price. The retail price is down to £329 from £399, but the education price is £315 (unchanged following the new release). But the iPad 3 is £399 retail, so does that mean I'll get it for the same £315 given the education discount? Apple are saying nothing.

Do they want me to buy their product or not?!

Im having the same issues here, at the moment, the pricing for the new one isnt too far away from the ipad 2.

Hope they sort it out quick, we want to buy some cheap ipad 2s!!!

I'm waiting for the final quote, but essentially is looks like the iPad 3 will be £316 and the iPad 2 will be something like £260. Cases won't be far away either, apparently.

Just got pricing and were about the same on price, which are going to have?

We're going for the 2nd gen...we don't feel the improved screen is enough reason to upgrade, and the reduced price of the 2nd gen means we can get 2 more for our money. So it's a no brainer.

Indeed its Groupcall Emerge

Works quite well on the ipad 2 with the native app. Its better resolution than the iphone one.
