Rawns Posted December 12, 2011 Posted December 12, 2011 So, is anyone else getting rather excited about this? From what I hear, it's back to the old skool style Red Dwarf complete with laughter soundbytes! It has to be better then the last 3 episode "Back to Reality" special. 3
irsprint84 Posted December 12, 2011 Posted December 12, 2011 I love old comedy especially Red Dwarf but nothing rarely is like how it used to be
Oaktech Posted December 12, 2011 Posted December 12, 2011 i watched 'back to reality' and chuckled a bit, but mainly i had a 'wtf' look on my face.
cromertech Posted December 12, 2011 Posted December 12, 2011 Thanks for that. Looks incredibly cool. All the old stuff back again.
CHR1S Posted December 12, 2011 Posted December 12, 2011 Its still not Grant & Naylor, which IMO was the pinnacle..
tech_guy Posted December 12, 2011 Posted December 12, 2011 It'll be okay so long as Chloë Annett is in it as Kristine Kochanski....
sted Posted December 12, 2011 Posted December 12, 2011 even the old stuff hasnt aged well i watched them all on dvd a while back and diddnt find any of it as funny as i did when it was new. Sometimes its best to leave things in the past and back to reality was a good example of that
Oaktech Posted December 12, 2011 Posted December 12, 2011 It'll be okay so long as Chloë Annett is in it as Kristine Kochanski.... +1 for that. I worked with her in theatre several years ago and she was absolutely lovely. and, um. hot.
K.C.Leblanc Posted December 12, 2011 Posted December 12, 2011 Where's the flogging a dead horse smilie gone?
synaesthesia Posted December 12, 2011 Posted December 12, 2011 I'm massivelyu looking forward to it Huge fan!
Rawns Posted December 12, 2011 Author Posted December 12, 2011 even the old stuff hasnt aged well i watched them all on dvd a while back and diddnt find any of it as funny as i did when it was new. I disagree! I recently watched the first 3 series' on DVD and still found them great entertainment and was laughing all the way through! I guess it's down to personal preference and how funny you find a certain routine/clip after watching it X amount of times. I'm big into repeats though. I'll happily re-watch a series once/twice a year if I enjoy it. Over the years, I must have raped Dad's Army beyond belief! (Metaphorically speaking)
synaesthesia Posted December 12, 2011 Posted December 12, 2011 Plus, even series 7 and 8 hold up rather well as top class comedy when you compare them to - well, just about anything that's labelled comedy these days. 1
Jawloms Posted December 12, 2011 Posted December 12, 2011 The "Back to reality" ones were awful! I watched the first one with my wife and said to her "it's not in front of an audience, there's no laughter", she pointed out that perhaps it was in front of an audience and they were finding it as funny as we were........ I really hope this new one is back to the original first six series. Seven and eight are watchable for me, but I prefered the original Kochanski! 1

Totally, been waiting ages for this and honestly can't wait. As long as we don't get none of that "comedy gone too far" complaints
synaesthesia Posted December 19, 2011 Posted December 19, 2011 So according to Ganymede and Titan (fan club magazine thingy) it's looking DAMNED good. Scriptwriting is of the Series 5/6 era with some series 2 thrown in. Actors like they've never been away. It's actually apparently very very funny. I'm so looking forward to this I'll be spinning my nipple nuts every day 'til release! 1
GREED Posted December 20, 2011 Posted December 20, 2011 Awesome news of the highest calibre! Cannot wait!
Iain.Faulkner Posted December 21, 2011 Posted December 21, 2011 As a fan I'm really looking forward to this, I still love digging out the old DVD's of the first series and watching them over and over as I still find them hilarious (Quarantine with Arnold Rimmer and Mr Flibble still has me rolling about laughing). Back to reality was poor, although it did have a couple of moments which were amusing. I really hope this is going to be as good as people are suggesting. "What's that Mr Flibble? We can't possibly do that.....who'd clear up the mess?" :-)
synaesthesia Posted December 21, 2011 Posted December 21, 2011 Me and a friend on IRC were watching random eps the other day and could barely go 5 minutes each without quoting some of the cracking lines. From your episode above for instance, one thing that always gets me piddling myself is "Sir, I have a medium size fire axe buried in my spinal column. That sort of thing may put a crimp on your day!" One of the lines that genuinely has me rolling on the floor is one of the least favourite series - 7. "I hope we don't get stopped by the cops. They don't like it when you're ratarsed." (as Starbug is flying down a vent, firmly lodged up a rat's rectum) 1
GREED Posted December 21, 2011 Posted December 21, 2011 Series 6 was my favourite, closely follow by 5. Gunmen of the Apocalypse is just superb.
synaesthesia Posted December 21, 2011 Posted December 21, 2011 Fantastic writing in that one and it was critically acclaimed and awarded to boot. My favourites are indeed GOTA, Back to Reality, Backwards, Quarantine, Out of Time, Psirens and Rimmerworld. Oh and Terrorform. And Queeg. In fact, lots of them Also have a strange love for Tikka to Ride. Awesome writing.
Iain.Faulkner Posted December 22, 2011 Posted December 22, 2011 Just seen this on the Red Dwarf facebook page. 50 Best Red Dwarf Quotes - TV - ShortList Magazine Some quality lines :-)
synaesthesia Posted December 22, 2011 Posted December 22, 2011 Went through all those earlier. Some great writing
