Halfmad Posted May 2, 2007 Posted May 2, 2007 Right firstly.. I had NOTHING to do with this site, NOTHING, well other than uploading it. It's a monstrocity, a waste of web server space and I campaigned for weeks for us not to use it and instead for me to sit and make a new one from scratch. It was created by two sixth years in 2006 and by god did they do a poor job. Please note: 1. the use of BMPs as graphics 2. the spam advertising on the pages 3. the annoying use of EVERYTHING 4. EVERYTHING 5. oh and lack of titles at the top. Honestly, I'm ashamed, but at the same time laughing my backside off. Prepare to be stunned. Prepared to laugh like a laughing hyena on laughing gas which just watch the Two Ronnies episode with the "four candles" joke.. http://www.westlothian.org.uk/Armadale-Ac/
Domino Posted May 2, 2007 Posted May 2, 2007 untitled page? god thats elementary. come on, give the kids a hand with it
Guest Posted May 2, 2007 Posted May 2, 2007 I have seen worse May I point you to http://www.edugeek.octoink.co.uk
crc-ict Posted May 2, 2007 Posted May 2, 2007 I'll second Webman! How long does it take to load!! I could've read War and Peace by the time the page finished downloading! Admittedly I'm at home, but it's still a 1Meg broadband connection :s
Ben_Stanton Posted May 2, 2007 Posted May 2, 2007 Surely they have just used one of the wysiwyg templates?...and not very well! They didn't even choose one of the nice ones to rip off...
CHR1S Posted May 2, 2007 Posted May 2, 2007 I love how the images took ages to load even on 10Mb I have seen worse May I point you to http://www.edugeek.octoink.co.uk Thats a nice template!
crc-ict Posted May 2, 2007 Posted May 2, 2007 May I point you to http://www.edugeek.octoink.co.uk Nice! Very nice. If only our LA web hosting had a MySQL server so we could use Joomla...
plexer Posted May 2, 2007 Posted May 2, 2007 I love how the picture of the school hasn't even been resized just used the sizes in the image tag to resize it. Ben
saundersmatt Posted May 2, 2007 Posted May 2, 2007 Lol, dual core athlon box with 2 gig of ram Still takes about 10 seconds for all the images on the homepage to render fully. Oh my god. Lol need that. Matt
Halfmad Posted May 2, 2007 Author Posted May 2, 2007 untitled page? god thats elementary. come on, give the kids a hand with it I would but they've all left school now! I've suggested that it's used as a project for 5th/6th year pupils doing higher computing and that if they need any help I'll gladly give them it - if it helps get rid of this thing!
webman Posted May 2, 2007 Posted May 2, 2007 Well, atleast it's better than the crap that forntpage generates.... That's where WYSIWYG gets you - inline styles, absolutely-positioned boxes, 41 validation errors!
limbo Posted May 2, 2007 Posted May 2, 2007 I think my own personal highlight is the expression on the face of your headmaster - tell me, did they take it at the same time as showing him the website for the first time?
sqdge Posted May 2, 2007 Posted May 2, 2007 I can assure you that my school website is considerably worse. It's so bad it doesn't appear on Google and only has one picture of the school, and the rest are generic pictures of American Kids using equipment that our school couldn't afford in 100 budgets. Needless to say, I didn't make it.
Norphy Posted May 2, 2007 Posted May 2, 2007 That site makes baby Jesus cry. Having the 2.6MB bitmap as the background is especially bad. Our Year 7s could do better. I don't know if it's a peculiarity in Opera (didn't want to check in another browser, it would probably exceed my bandwidth cap for the month ) but when you bring down one of the mouseover menus at the top, it makes the entire content of the site disappear until you move the mouse away from the menu.
Halfmad Posted May 2, 2007 Author Posted May 2, 2007 I think my own personal highlight is the expression on the face of your headmaster - tell me, did they take it at the same time as showing him the website for the first time? lol! the poor guy has never seen it, partly why I was so keen on us not using it. I explained to him that he'd not like it once he was up but he muttered something about charter mark and said it was a requirement..
webman Posted May 2, 2007 Posted May 2, 2007 I suppose it's better than paying £3000 to an outfit like Schooltrends.
Ric_ Posted May 2, 2007 Posted May 2, 2007 OMG! It's like being on dialup!!!! The try and catch the words as they fly past at the speed of light!!!
flyinghaggis Posted May 2, 2007 Posted May 2, 2007 I especially like the main school pic! An 8Mb resized bitmap! Nice 8)
sqdge Posted May 2, 2007 Posted May 2, 2007 To be fair, there is quite a lot of prospectus-like content on there, which is more than I've seen a lot of other school's sites offer. It's just ruined by the pictures, the purple, and the..umm...pfonts.
kestrel1 Posted May 2, 2007 Posted May 2, 2007 You think the above school websites are bad, take a look at this: http://www.burgate.hants.sch.uk Click on the main website button to enter. It is real rubbish. A very bad advert for the school. & I am glad to say, I had nothing to do with it.

The lack of pictures also makes it slightly creepy.
