I am posting this from our IT broom cupboard. We have just had "ventilation" installed. It is not air conditioning. It just drags in air from the outside. We are testing it with the door closed and our big desk fan turned off. We only have one window, which doesn't open and is internal anyway. The temperature is now 27°C and the humidity is 30%. If two dessicated corpses are found in ... here ... tomorrow ... morning ...

For some odd reason, seeing the word dessicated has made me long for a quarter of coconut mushrooms. Anyone else remember coconut mushrooms?

 

Good luck with the ventilating, with that heat and humidity, better hope no-one farts in there!

Oddly enough, coconut mushrooms aren't the first thing on my mind right now. I can't remember the last time I blinked. Theoretically, farts should increase the humidity a little bit.

27°c? Fancy swapping for ours? 37°c on a morning, 30°c during the day? No external wall and only a 6" diameter extractor fan into the adjoining ICT room....

We have similar in our server room, although ours is currently sent to extract air from the server room and vent it to the outside world (our contribution towards global warming!).

 

This is better for us as the air inside the building is cooler than what we'd get from outside. We can actually turn it round for the winter months, which is quite neat. We have large vent holes set in the door, so when the fan is really giving it some, there is a quite pronounced breeze through the room!

 

I used to work somewhere where the computer room was air-conditioned from floor vents, so if you stood in the wrong place you got a blast of 12C air up your trouser leg!

Time was that I would have been lucky to have 27 degrees, why back in my day I had to go work on the surface of the Sun in nothing but a pair of sandals , for tuppence a fortnight, and I would come home after 15 hours a day and my father would beat me black and blue with a rolled up newspaper until I sang Roll out the Barrel in deep baritone!

!!! You had a Father with a Newspaper?!!! When I got home I after 26 hours of work, mining the Suns core in nothing but a small paper napkin I had to beat myself black and blue with a wet kleenex!!

I sympathies, our room was an old bog and it was hell until we had Air Con fitted a couple of years ago.

My school has no proper ventilation or air conditioning.

 

Today it was quite a pleasant temperature.

my room now as 2 severs a switch rack and no windows noe ventolation and today it got up to 30c in there. no ac eather and two of us work in there.

@alonebfg: If the room has no ventilation it is against health and safety law to work in there. There is also a fire risk. By law this must be actioned immediately!

 

Set the thermal cut outs on your servers to 32 degrees too for 'safety' and see how quickly something is done about it!

I must admit we got air con last year, it is alot better, the room is now the hottest in the winter but the coolest in the summer.

 

Still haven't sorted out the server noises ...now that is a health and safety problem!!

We got a Massive air con system last year..and I mean massive, its about 6 foot long and attached to the wall near the ceiling. Turn it on full and it gets positively ICY in here.

 

This will be the first summer that we have had it, I just know that every member of staff will be finding reasons to loiter in our office during the summer to make use of it

The thing is, the overall temperature during summer is increasing gradually. Will it be long before A/C is needed throughout schools to manage with this heat?

we i have been told that the whole room is being done up and we should get some kind of ac in there (befor it was a server room it was a kilm room)

My office is a lovely 19 degrees although that may be in part to the office being next to the server room and just an arch way between the two with the server room chilled to 16 degrees!! Also on the other end of the office opens into our latest ict suite that is chilled to 22 degrees at all times!
