  1. Do NewLink do a Windows 7 driver for their USB/serial adaptors? If so, how do I get one? Is it a case of simply buying a new NewLink adaptor and using the one that comes on the disc? Or, are we going to have to switch to a new make of adaptor? My problem is that my NM is now issuing new Windows 7 laptops to teachers, some of whom, who use Polyvision TS600 IWBs are now suddenly finding that they cannot use them.
  2. I've tried the download from the manufacturers website, but it doesn't work. This was not a complete surprise, as the file was dated 2009.
  3. I refuse to use any cleaner that sounds like an island in the Indian Ocean.
  4. Sorted. Swapped "thingies" with an ML-1610 with a mechanical fault, and worked AOK. So, I've just saved the school and the good citizens of Bristol the cost of a new printer. A good day.
  5. I usually find teacher + water + desktop a much better combination. Especially if the desktop is plugged in and switched on.
  6. OK, the subject shows what I'm currently playing with. It's stopped working, and both the red and yellow LEDs flash together which, according to the manual, means that, "Your system has some problems". No $#!+, Samsung. Fortunately, the user is one of my better ones, and they took some screen prints of the error message they got, which point the finger at the fuser unit. Further internet research (and I'm sorry, but this includes some from home, as the most useful looking sites are barred by the council) has revealed that the usual cause is a blown lamp(?) in the fuser unit, which is evidently dead easy to replace. I've dismantled the printer, and removed something from the front of the fuser unit, but it doesn't look like a lamp. It's cylindrical. The black plastic bit is 14mm in diameter, 8mm high. On top of this is a shiny metal cap, 16mm in diameter and 4mm high. The top of this has the following markings: PW-3N 2258 N150. It also has two of those "Lucar" type spade connectors. These are marked "30". The size of the connecting wires makes me suspect that this could easily mean 30 amps. I suppose that there could be a lamp inside it, which makes the metal cap get hot. So, have any of you been here before me? Is this odd component the fuser unit lamp/heater/whatever?
  7. What about a SatNav for "empty nesters" that says, at random intervals, "Are we there yet?"
  8. 8:30 to 4:30.
  9. I've lost count of the number of times I've seen the "We'll always have Paris ... Hill of beans ... Here's looking at you, kid" speech at the end of Casablanca, but it still gets me every time, and I'm not ashamed to admit it.
  10. It was the amount charged. For example, I lend you £10 and you agree to pay it back in a week. You don't. I ring you to remind you. I can add the cost of that call to the debt. I cannot charge you £35. It doesn't cost a bank £35 to send you an automatic standard letter if you go overdrawn, over a credit limit or whatever. OTOH, if you lend someone £10 and never see them again, it was probably worth it.
  11. The patience of a saint, the hide of a rhinoceros ...
  12. I turn up to change printer cartridge. Lady: "Do you want me to put it in for you?" Me: "That's very kind, but we hardly know each other."
  13. Any vacancies in or around Aldershot? Just over 2 years experience, CompTIA A+ and Network+, etc.
  14. Congratulations. Take lots of photos: life doesn't have a rewind button.
  15. We just use the format "ITnnnn". We have found a fatal flaw with usernames based on the kids' actual names - a significant proportion of our new Year 7's can't spell their own name.
  16. Can pigs catch man flu?

    Pi Day

The death toll in the pie factory disaster has been confirmed at 3.1415927. I'll get my coat.
  19. I can't afford any of the things our local council has discounts for, even with them.
  20. I tend to just use the outside lane. I know that it's for overtaking only, but you do a lot of that, when you are cruising at 90mph.
  21. "Plan 9 from Outer Space".
  22. Gas lift = potentially dangerous?
  23. What TV? I can't afford £100+ for a TV licence on under £1000 a month take home. It's chewing gum for the mind, anyway.
  24. Only the usual seagulls. Our kids would probably kick anything else to death.
  25. Your grandparents have named their French window?
