  1. CTRL + Z to undo my last error. I do seem to use this one rather a lot.
  2. I've seen that kind of damage before. My money is on someone carrying the laptop with the power unit in beween the keyboard and screen.
  3. The following link might be useful for you, http://www.freestuffjunction.co.uk/ and the following link for your teaching staff, http://www.freestuffjunction.co.uk/teachers.shtml
  4. ... you can input the Product ID for Office 2007 from memory.
  5. But it does make the heart grow fonder.
  6. Only me and the caretakers. Mind you, I've just solved the loneliness problem by phoning a new girlfriend and fixing up what should be a pretty hot date on Saturday night!
  7. I was 33 in 1988. Oh, if I knew them what I know now - I could have patented lots of things before they had been invented and made a fortune! For those who don't know, in China the number 8 is associated with prosperity and is the most auspicious of the numbers. Today's date, containing 3 of them is 3 times as auspicious.
  8. Not yet - Friday for us. We've got some building work and office moves. It's job security, though.
  9. Erm, classical and getting into opera.
  10. I have no problem with this. Stephen C Leak.
  11. [CYNICAL MODE] That's because we can ban them from the internet. [/CYNICAL MODE]
  12. Ours have been known to do this to spell their names - incorrectly.
  13. Turkey Twizzlers and chips back on the school dinners menu, perchance?
  14. Babbage's Analytical Engine was an improvement on the Difference Engine. I'll get my frock coat.
  15. How do you put those on a CV?
  16. I've had a newly installed modem "catch fire". A tantalum bead capacitor shorted out internally and started emitting (probably toxic) white smoke. It was so hot that it was glowing and, at first sight, I thought it was a yellow LED.
  17. Fabulous! Its a peripotetic Babbage analytical engine.
  18. Unfortunately, these are the ones that will survive: its called "reverse Darwinism".
  19. IIRC, there was something on BBC News earlier this week about a judgement that the program was "misleading".
  20. ... small apartment ...
  21. I am going to need to do this soon as we will need to support XP/Office 2003, XP/Office 2007 and (God help us!) Vista/Office 2007 machines. I was advised to use something called "Virtual PC".
  22. http://www.theregister.co.uk/2007/12/03/panorama_wifi_fear_wristslap/
  23. Replace it with a nice cheap mono' one.
  24. Don't get me started. One day I will try to bill one of them, as well as the pupil. You have got to come down hard on this sort of thing. How would it be dealt with in a work environment?
  25. Well we do and we're just a humble LEA city secondary - not Eaton or Harrow, but Bash Street with mobile 'phones. It was here when I arrived, so I cannot comment about resistance. If you don't have cameras to identify the pupil, then all you can do is bill the teacher or department who last used the room - that should soon increase their vigilance and maybe even get them "onside" for the cameras! A PC is an integrated system - I recognise no difference between breaking a mouse and trashing the entire thing.
