Try again later' Apparently it only seems to happen with Word documents Any ideas as I'm baffled!
MatthewL Posted November 18, 2011 Posted November 18, 2011 Check your event logs on your file server where these files are located. We had similar issues and the issue was picked up by an event in there, if you Google it the fix will be there. Sorry I can not be of more use just going on a similar issue we had but I was not directly involved in the fix.

techie08 Posted November 20, 2011 Posted November 20, 2011 We have the same issue here also but with Word 2010 and Powerpoint 2010. Only seems to be with laptops (they use offline files) and the H: drive is mapped by the user account so not by GPO or Login script. We dont know why its happing either and its driving the teachers mad! the only thing we have done to limit it as much as possible is to disable auto save which was 10 mins.

Offline lifes is specificly disabled in group policy. I have done a fair bit of Googling and found nothing. Does anyone have any other thoughts please?

Michael Posted November 22, 2011 Posted November 22, 2011 I presume a reboot of the workstation clears things? What about logging off and back on? If the home drive is not accessible from Word for example, can it still be accessed from Computer? One possible theory or explanation is an intermittent network problem or something like autosave unable to write to the home directory. Does this problem happen on wired or wireless clients? or both?

Michael Posted November 23, 2011 Posted November 23, 2011 I had a similar problem today - a user couldn't print from Publisher 2010, but could from other Office 2010 applications. Deleting the locally cached profile cured it.

We only get this error on laptops that have offline files enable on their Home drive.

ITs getting quite frustrating now as there are quite a few user complaining they have the same issue. I have tried replicating the problem and its very intermittant on when the "File In Use" comes up. Sometimes it could be after 3 Saves of the document, or sometime many more than that.

The Server was locking the files... disabling this via the registry fixed the problem... Could this be your issue?? Configuring opportunistic locking in Windows

Hi, I had similar issue when offline files were enabled on staff laptops. When offile option was turned off everything worked and users could open and save files online, but obviously they couldn't access their H:\ (home drive) outside school. I got Microsoft involved and checked AD and group policies and everything on the DCs and file server (server 2008) and couldn't find anythging wrong. The cause was the laptops couldn't connect to users home directory properly, as they were connecting direct to a Linux OS storage server. I've always said and insisted with the company who supplied us with server that it was to with the Linux box and laptops didn't like it. The minute we changed the configuration of the storage server and made it into a SAN connecting from one of the DCs (server 2008) using iscsi that worked and cured all sors of problems with locked files and issue with accessing data on the file server. Have you changed the configuration of your file server?
