Cut through Sky multiroom cable!

Mr Chrbb after much cajoling (nagging) ventured into the garden yesterday to tidy it up before he disappears or the entire cricket season. After 2 minutes he reappeared with the news that whilst trimming the hedge he'd cut through the sky multiroom cable, is there a connector we can get to join it back up?

I would go for crimps like BT use (or solder), and a plastic box filled with potting compound. Probably the only way to keep it entirely dry.

I would get a pair of suitable twist on F plugs and F coupler from Maplins seal it up with a length of heat shrink tube or self amalgamating tape.

The signal loss/noise using an F type coupler is minimal and you will be working again in no time with minimal fuss.

 

Get the correct style of F Plug to suit your cable type.

Second m25mans advice. Dont try to do a twisted pair crimp. Likely to mess up the signal to the sat box.

Personally, I'd be inclined to make Mr Chrbb sit in the garden and hold it together for the entire cricket season.....

Best thing short of a new cable is exactly what has been suggested get some f plugs and barrel joiners plus some self almagamating tape.

I think you should phone Sky up, get an engineer out have him fix the problem. Pay for it yourself then apologise to Mr Chrbb for bullying him into to doing something her clearly wasnt ready to do. Then swear your nagging/cojoling days are over, from this point on you will learn to be more chilled out, less stressed and enjoy the cricket together. Screw the hedges, they are not important.

Recon you will both be happier.

I would probably see if Sky will come and fix it for you in the first instance, maybe say you know nothing about it and that some villein had done it to you! bullies! lol

 

Dunno what the charge would be if they come out to fix it.. but at least you know it is done properly.. they may even run another cable.. (depending on how much work that would be we know how they like to get in and out in under 30 minutes) lol

Cats / hedgehogs dont use scissors... or hedge trimmers. But that would be one hell of a scary badger. Imagine the size it would need to be to handle a hedge trimmer.

Did this stop sky in your other rooms working? I want to cut out an old sky multiroom cable but am not sure whether my sky+ will stop working?

Each box has it's own feed from the sat dish, so makes no difference to the other boxes.

 

Your sky+ box will have 2, your multiroom (assuming not Sky+ as well) will be a single cable. Cut away once you know which cable is which, although I'd be tempted to disconnect it from the dish and remove the whole cable run for neatness, but thats because our dish is nice and low down
