witch Posted February 25, 2011 Posted February 25, 2011 At the Microsoft/Edugeek meeting in Reading yesterday, we were talking about having a conference somewhere further south to widen the attendance. What does everyone think? I am keen to hear from those who WOULD come if it was to be in, say, Bristol. We were thinking that those from the South West, and points along the M4 and M5 might find it fairly easy to get to.

We are trying to accomodate those who are usually stopped by the high travel costs. For eg, its £80 best travel to london, and then has to involve two nights @ min £50 pn. At least by placing the meets in locations which are on main routes within day travel for those who cant get the funds for overnight should increase the member meets abilities
GrumbleDook Posted February 25, 2011 Posted February 25, 2011 We have had Midlands stuff before, but they were small due to the nature of EG at the time, relying purely on the good nature of speakers / venue / sponsors, etc. I do think it is time for another on in the Midands, but South / South West deserve theirs first. I am happy with Bristol or Exeter ... it would be a 3 day thing for me anyway but I would definitely come. 1

witch Posted February 25, 2011 Author Posted February 25, 2011 I do agree that one in the Midlands would be good for you up there but as he said, it costs a lot for us to get up that far. By all means start your own poll about the Midlands but this is a serious attempt to try and find out where would be a good place for us 'down-ere' to meet. (and Brum to Bristol isn't difficult)

Wether it's on the mainline to preston or wherever I'm not really bothered about travelling from the east coast to the west coast is an issue for me personally. Do we not have any friends at any universities that could accomodate? Thanks. Ben

Sorry, you are quite right - title changed. I was just thinking that the people in the midlands would be able to get to the SW if they could go straight down the M5. So what we are looking at is a venue for people in the southern half of the country, veering towards the western edge.
