somabc Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 Onan yn Kernow? (Prize for 1st person to tell me where Kernow is!) Cornwall? 1
GrumbleDook Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 Oh shut up Grumbly and start your own poll!! Seriously though - the point is that people who are in the 'South East' find it fairly OK to get to London, whereas that isnt so easy for us who are a bit further left. Yes, a conference in London would be a very good idea but as they are having a 'Northern Conference' we felt it important that we should be able to have one a lot further South - there are many of us who do not live near very good road and rail links and so it would need to be further over. In an ideal world there would be one up north, one in Scotland, one in MK, one in London, one in Kent, one in Bristol and one in Plymouth. We can only dream The original plan, supported by the SSAT, was indeed to have 6 workshops / conferences across England. Unfortunately there were not enough people willing to help provide space for free or help manage the events so that had to go by the wayside. At least now EG has the momentum to do this ... Wherever it is ... I'll be there.

tom_newton Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 Not that I should have a vote (so I haven't) as the Smoothwall gang will inevitably turn up wherever (Yes Sean, even Shetland) you put it, but Bristol is a pleasant city with good links by road, rail and air, plus has fine venues.

I am happy to help manage events, as is 'The Scarfed One' and I bet there are others. It may be that space has to be paid for in future - but c'est la vie - a small charge to the edugeeks shouldnt put them off such a wonderful event. 1
speckytecky Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 Yep that will be Cornwall - spoken as a native who emigrated to England unable to cope with the summer traffic! Onan yn Kernow? (Prize for 1st person to tell me where Kernow is!)
TheScarfedOne Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 Oh for goodness sake... Why did I offer to do this in the first place....? Where is 'The Scarfed One' when you need him... *seriously though - we are trying to get something sorted... Im here Im here... blooming late I know - but Mondays are impossible for me! All my meetings throughout the day... Im seeing that Bristol is coming up tops so far, which figures cos of the best transport routes. Nice place, plenty of conference venues. MS used The Watershead before which was good. Tomorrow, hopefully wont be so lame
