Disposal of canoes

Bit of a weird one, but does anyone know how i would go about disposing of canoes?

They were left in our property when we bought it, and are both damaged.

We've called the council and their large item disposal team wont take it as it "wont fit into the crusher van" so i dont know what else to do. Not sure if the local recycling centre/tip would take it, but it then means having to get it there as it wont fit in my car and i have no roof bars/racks

any ideas?

 

they are the slalom type canoes, like this and both have the paddles too:

other option is to do viking burial set em alight and push them down the canal

 

i think chopping them up is looking the only option, as we want rid of them ASAP

i'll be honest i dont know, they've been sat down the side of the conservatory since we moved in, and i only moved them to lay them with the other bits we want disposing of

nope unfortunately nowhere to put them locally. im thinking cutting up and taking to recycling/tip is the only option

Check your local Scout group or Uni don't want them. They may either be able to patch them up or use them for silliness. Otherwise freecycle or put a sign on them asking for them not to be stolen thank you very much.

Try using them somewhere in the north sea, go missing for a few years, get your missus to claim on the insurance, and then come back home when all has settled down.

fawkers: when i removed them, they were full of water inside (where it had leaked in over the months before we moved in) and have the noses snapped off. the insides are absolutely filthy, covered in grime, algae etc and there are some bits of foam (or something) inside too. personally i wouldn't feel comfortable passing these on to be used at all, they need disposing of, otherwise i would have considered it

I'd try freecycle first... there's nothing you can't get rid of that way IMO!

 

As a former slalomist myself... if they're slalom boats they'll be pretty flexible and you should be able to jump on them and with a bit of help tear them. The seat's more of a problem... but you'd get them into compact enough bits to take to the tip. .

Cut a few more holes in the top, fill with compost from grow bags, plant tomatoes.

But teh scouts may be able to fill the ends and use them for raft building or even general silliness. We had an evening of Urban Kayaking last October which was hilarious. Same goes for the Universities. Someone may want them as a prop, part of a project/art installation, or for something incredibly silly. As long as you are clear what state they are in and that you take no responsibility for what they use them for I don't see a problem.

i dont know if they are slalom ones, thats just the shape i found after googling. they are the ones with the tiny hole in the centre and thats it, going to a point either end.

Another vote for ebay. I've often picked up tatty ones FOC, give them a quick blast with a hosepipe and sold them for £20 on Ebay.

I'd save all the hassle if they are that bad and sledge hammer them, problem is they are likely to be fibreglass, so a viking burial won't work.
