Forum access on mobile devices with apps.

Hi there,

 

Ive been using Tapatalk on my Android phone for a while for other forums and there is a free plugin that can be added to forums to make edugeek work on these apps.

Is it possible for this to be done to allow access for us on our mobile devices?

Iphones, android etc.

Interesting I've seen forums tell me they have that available but haven't tried it yet.

 

Edugeek currently runs on vbulletin Version 4.1.0 and they list supoprt for vbulletin 4.0.X but I guess it would probably work.

I use tapatalk for a land rover forum and find it excellent. Apparently all that is required is a free add-on to the forum and it would allow it to work.

 

Rather than a specific app for edugeek, tapatalk allows you to use all your forums from one app.

Ok, how much will it be?

The price will be a $200 up front fee + a $99 annual update and support fee (i.e. $299 for the first year). The up front price will be reduced to $100 for an initial period meaning that it will be $199 for the first year for people purchasing in the initial period.

This fee will cover the branded iPhone application, the branded Android application and future mobile applications that we elect to develop.

Rather than edugeek spending money on an iphone/ipad app that only iphone/ipad users could use, they could use a free piece of software and for members who wish to use the app can purchase the app.

And it works on android and iphone etc.

Seems a better, idea to me?

Just read several android users experience (on android market) with tapatalk and it didn't fair well

Don't forget that Edugeek has a mobile version already that works well on mobile handsets, @ZeroHour set it up at BETT this year as I know we all spent a bit of time playing with it in a restaurant one night

I think just as some others have been saying about goverment sites that less should be put into developing applications and more should be put into making decent mobile versions of the site - this way any phone with a decent web browser (be it an iPhone/Droid/Windows Phone) the site will still work well.

Apps on phones can be of benifit though, limited speed and in some countries datacap makes apps more efficient. Rather than having to wait for a slow connection to down load the fundimentals each time and download the functionality again and again an app can with an API can have this one the phone and do fun stuff like cacheing, data compression etc above and beyond what you can do with a webpage (call it an app all you want its still based on the http protocol and a soup of extras tacked on that has to be downloaded each time).

 

Some people may live in countries / have providers that make this argument less valid but lets not discriminate against those who don't have access to practically free (in comparison) internet.
