Which is best - HP Microserver Gen 8 or Dell T20
Geek_of_HeathMount replied to Geek_of_HeathMount's topic in Hardware
All the latest versions of SBS(Windows 2012 Essentials ) and windows(Windows 2012) will be used, no point in going backwards!! Looking to use VMware as I am already proficient with Hyper V, currently running 2012 3 node cluster, and I'm looking to get my VMware skills up by replicating what I have already done. As for the budget I'm aiming at about the 450 - 500 mark, in theory this should give me a minimum of a 1TB HD(Hybrid) with 16GB RAM running on an Intel chipset- 7 replies

I've recently been given the choice between the above two servers, to be used as a development server. However, I'm unsure which would best suit my needs. My development environment will essentially be VMWare host running 2 or 3 VM's. On the vm's will be running MS Small Business Server, Terminal Services and maybe a web server. Your thoughts please and thanks in advance

Hi All, I have several of the above and because the children are little darlings they like to fiddle during lessons. So what I've decided to do is write a batch file, that allows the teacher to deploy an image which resets the device, so far this has worked well. However, what I would also like to do is to get the device to boot up into kiosk mode from the batch file and therefore give the teacher "complete" control, in other words they stop asking me to reboot machines!! Any help gratefully received. If this question has been posted before, please accept my apologises and send me the url.

All I have a member of staff who is using an ASUS laptop and in recent times the laptop has been difficult to power/boot up. Today its decided not to play ball at all. Power light is on, Battery light is on, but nothing else !!! I've tried the removing the battery for 20 / 45 seconds, holding the power button down while removing the battery etc etc solutions found by my friend google to no avail. Does anyone know why ASUS laptops seem to have this "design feature" and how it can be disabled, its really annoying. :mad:l

All I have an interesting problem that I thought I had solved, but after a couple of test runs, it turns out I haven't. So here is my problem any ideas on a solution would greatly be received. - I have a 3 node MS cluster, supporting 15 vm's - 1 APC UPS supporting the 3 node MS cluster and APC's Network Shutdown software In the event of a shutdown event I would like to shutdown the vm's before the hosts. I have tried writing a script that gets fired when the host system log records a 1074 ID (Shutdown Request from "shutdown.exe -f -s -t 00"). However, this script gets ignored or gets bypassed as the server performs an automated shutdown. This then leads to the vm's within the cluster either being in a failed or critical state. As I said any ideas on how to get the vm's to close first would be greatly appreciated.

Stop them changing my MacBook Desktops
Geek_of_HeathMount replied to Geek_of_HeathMount's topic in Mac
Thanks guys I'll give that a go -
I'll have 20 MacBooks all clean and new come the beginning of September. So I'm a little reluctant to hand them over to the kids as they will only clutter the desktops, move all my Icons and change all my settings. So my question is how do I stop them, I can't find any magic setting within preferences that will take care of this for me. Can anyone help??

Hi All I'm looking to move on in my career and have stumbled across the CITM qualification. Does anyone have one of these or know of anyone who has? It seems to be only delivered by one company in the UK. Is it worth doing or is it a US import that supposedly gone global??

I've recently completed a VMM course and as a result I found out that most of my servers have been configured wrong. Don't worry it's not as bad as it sounds just a few tweaks required here and there. However, I'm finding it increasingly difficult to find the time to make the changes and migrate the VM's to new homes.(This has to be done as the cluster is set up incorrectly). So what I'm after is someone who can come in and do a Hyper-V tidy up and get all my hosts under VMM. Suggestions anyone?

Hi Jordan Sorry didn't reply yesterday, We've been working on this a little bit and have moved forward a fraction. The computers I'm using are a MacBook running 10.6.8 and a Mac Server running 10.5.8 the build of Deploy Studio is the latest stable build. Now, when I try and do a net net boot i'm given the option to boot from the image on the server. However, after a few moments the Macbook gives up and reverts to booting from its internal HD. As for the USB problem, that was down to just sheer bad luck in picking a damaged HD to use.

All Very new to the "Deploy Studio" software, but it looks really great and will achieve everything that I want. However, I'm having problems getting it to do what I want!!! Regardless which way I try and deploy it I hit problems 1. If I try and deploy using the bootable external drive option. It gives me an error saying that it can't create the drive. even though it's an empty 40GB usb. 2. if I deploy via Netboot, the macbook see's the server, so i tell it to do a network boot and then it fails. This is all very frustrating, and I have twenty macs to clone by the end of next week. Any help would be greatly received. If need be I would be more than willing to pay for a couple of hours work. Regards Ian

Morning All, I'm in need of a little help with a Hyper-V VM running MS Windows 2008 Enterprise. It has several snapshots, the last of which I have been running a little bit longer than I should of. However, the snapshot has now become corrupt and before I make matters worse I would like to know if anyone has had a similar experience and managed to get it back or know of an individual or company that offer this service? Thanks in advance

Guys I'm becoming increasingly unhappy with our current SharePoint server support, can anyone recommend a company who knows SharePoint 2007 ? Thanks

I'm begging to think that this was a bad idea. The art department have decided to use a free plugin but want it customised !!! So instead of a flash developer I'll be needing a php one.

HTML5 would be the way to go. As with all things user related the goal posts have been moved since my last post. They want an image gallery but it has to work inside Wordpress and be simple enough for non techies to use

I have need of a Flash developer, can anyone recommend one?
