10-20 minutes by car each way depending upon time of day.

Before I got my car I had to get two buses to work which in total took 2 hours every single day. :(

12 miles for each way and depending on which route I take and how busy traffic is ie some muppet's crashing on the A45 or else where as above can take longer but generally speaking between 20 to 30 mins each way.

i am thinking of aplying for a new job, only catch is it is 60 miles away from where i live. (1 hour and a half drive).

Depends on the traffic, the weather, the time of day, how fast you drive :p

My current job is 35 miles away from my house. On a good day, if I leave at 4.00, and shoot up the motorway, I can be home in 45 minutes. On a normal day, however, avoiding the rush hour traffic on the M40 and getting stuck behind muppets driving 42 in a 60, leaving at 5.00, I get home between 6 and 6.30.

I usually leave around 8.00 in the morning - on a good day I'll be in work before 9.00, on a bad day it's around 10-15 minutes later.

I left at 7.00 this morning, hoping to miss all the traffic and get in before 8.00 - little did I know it was going to chuck it down with rain all day and everyone would drive at 4mph on the dual carriageway. Took over an hour and a half to get in. And I didn't get to see my kids at breakfast time :(

It depends on your circumstances. If you don't mind spending up to three hours in traffic getting to work and the same coming back, and you don't mind waking up, going to work, coming home and going to bed, then go for it. If you have a family, or a social life, then I'd look for something a bit closer :D

His amount works out at about 30mpg for the car - not overly awful, just not overly efficient now.

How are you calculating MPG cos the sites I have tried to work this out on are giving me rubbish results

12 miles to get to work and 12 miles to get back = 24 miles for one day

24 miles * 5 days = 120 miles

To fill my 1.4 tank up is aprox £40 ( give or take a fiver ) so on average lets make the amount to fill up my car £42.50

A full tank lasts me 2 weeks - so I fill up twice to last me a whole month.

I was trying to calculate for one week so on the websites I would enter the amount of miles ( 120 ) , I would enter the cost as £20 as it is only for a week, and the site I am using requests the pence per litre which obviously fluctuates but I used 1.06

His trip is 32 miles a day. £30 a week at around £1.10 a litre comes to 27.27litres or roughly 6 gallons. 5 * 32 = 160 miles a week. 160 / 6 = 26.7 ish. Rounded, as we're using rough numbers here, about 30Mpg.

Your MPG is about 30mpg too, using the above figures.

Can be 15 minutes to do 7 miles or 30 minutes.

I pass a fair few traffic lights and also an RAF base. Trouble is the runway flight path is over a road, each time they land in that direction, they close the road to land the "private" aeroplanes. Grr it can be frustrating.

in theory i am a 15 minute drive from work, but it takes me anywhere between 40mins to an hour to actually get there each morning. damn ring road.

Sorry mate, but that is err very Geeky, I like many fill up and use the car knowing it does XX Mpg according to the onboard computer.

Used to be 30 miles in 40 mins and that was bad.... Then it was 2.5 miles in 15 ish mins (cycling) which was okay, but I broke my wrist in a nasty fall and lost alot of my confidence, so moved next to work now it's about 2 minutes walk.

Both the cycling and walking made me alot happier, as it doesn't mean I'm getting angry/fraustrated on the roads (also I saved ££££, after getting rid of the car)

Older cars still don't really have these.... Best way I found is to fill up and then next time you fill up devide the amount you put in by your trip meter.

my current car does have an onboard readout as well btu its useful to keep a log of what the car does and record servicing etc in one place so i can see if mpg suddenly drops as unless you constantly reset the mpg in the car it would have to plummet badly to alter an average set over 10'000 miles

I live about 8 miles from work. I can usually complete the journey in 15 mins. However to do that I have to set off very early. I am usually first in.

I used to work in Southwark. That was a bus, coach and tube trip away. If the connections worked just right I would usually make it in in around two hours. Often it was much longer. This made for very long days.

Well he did say < 500m, so that could mean 400 or even 300m, either of which is less than a quarter of a mile and in an "emergency" situation you're likely to test your physical fitness so I guess you could run that distance in 3mins =)

11 miles for me. 20-25mins to get there, 35-40mins to get back (I come home in during worst peak time traffic). Quickest I have done the journey is just shy of 20mins during the middle of the night!

Wolverhampton to Ludlow around 35miles each way so 70miles per day.

Takes around 50min each way, lots of long straight countryside roads often fairly empty of a morning beside tractors
