School ICT policy

Hi,

 

i've attached our schools ICT policy. it makes use of the C in ict and talks about the AV and telephones.

 

we're a small school, so the rule about the telephones makes sense here.

 

this is hopefully a fairly extensive ict policy, as we disigned it to cover our bases.. there was a lot of un-punished abuse of facilities here before i joined apparently.

I'm new so I expect this has been asked before - what is the situation with Teachers putting software on their laptops? I am concerned about licences and whether I and the school will be in trouble if unlicensed software is put on the school's laptops. Do I get them to sign something or what?

You need a Staff AUP which they need to sign. You obviously need support from the Head/Head of IT/ICT Co-ordinator/whatever to make it enforcable though.

 

I think there's examples of Staff AUP's kicking about on the forums and the wiki. If not I'm sure some other members will have examples they can post.

We get all teachers and users of laptops to sign a laptop agrement form as well as a network agreement policy.

Laptops, - We set them up so staff only have Power User functioality and cannot add software or say install/setup internet access. If logged onto the school network then the can use the internet etc. We will add any valid school software to their laptops on request. Only by special permission of the head do we give them anything more.

 

This has been a problem at our Junior School as staff went to the LEA to pick up their laptops from the "Laptops for Teachers" scheme. The istructions they were given by the LEA(!) said not to set up any passwords and to set themselves up as administrators. Now we are putting these onto the network we are having to remove Dialup, Broadband, Home network settings and the like. Just adds to the time.......

what we do is they do not log onto domain...

 

what we have done is we are in proccess of making sure there is an admin account that is admin account and then a ccount that is set to limited type..

 

admin account is hidden so users cant login as them.

 

I have batch file that runs and set 90% of stuff up for me...

just writing a laptop acceptable use policy for my school now.

 

we generally have free reign with our laptops. was thinking of just putting a general statement like "misue of internet would be viewing, downloading or trasmitting pornography or any material that would be considered offensive" but being no more specific about what staff can access. What do people think?

The Data Protection issue you need to cover blinklu is regarding you looking at thier files. Most schools too have problems with staff letting students use thier logins...

It covers most of the important points but the language drifts a bit, making it unclear who the target audience is. Is it for students, parents of students or staff?

 

There should also be an AUP for staff as there is often a greater feeling of entitlement coupled often with less expertise.

You should make it more explicit that unauthorised access to systems in school or off-site is prohibited. This a catch-all for hacking/cracking.

 

The section on representing the school be expanded to inidcate that the no user should try to make any statement about the school that they have no authority to do so, whether or or not it is defamatory

You should be more precise on how the section on bulletin board systems and internet forums affects VLEs, especially those hoste by third parties.

I'd give "monitoring" it's own section closer to the start to make it stand out more. It's a key point in any case, but since the RIP Act you really need to ensure people know about the confidentiality or otherwise of their comms & data on your network.

Doesn't that apply more to adults. Can students really expect that to have an absolute right to go on chat sites during lesson time?
