nicholab Posted May 5, 2010 Posted May 5, 2010 I will be very disappointed if we have a Tory government on Friday. I would like to see electoral reform so that people take other parity more seriously greens and others. The Tory government are going to stop council tax rises this will mean that your council will have less money to fix roads and things like this. I live in Richmond upon Thames which gets very little money form central government most of the money the council spends is raise locally. The people backing David Cameron locally make me even less keen as they are real Tories not the David Cameron type.
featured_spectre Posted May 5, 2010 Posted May 5, 2010 Vince Cable seems to have the most sensible budget out of the 3 main parties, however a LibDem - Tory coalition would be a superior government than any of them by themselves!
broc Posted May 5, 2010 Posted May 5, 2010 I think Vince Cable talks more sense than any of the prospective chancellors; I am however dismayed at the prospect of George Osborne as chancellor.....
nicholab Posted May 5, 2010 Author Posted May 5, 2010 Kevbaz has Oblivious got money. I can't afford to buy my own home or rent!!!
sandeep2504 Posted May 5, 2010 Posted May 5, 2010 i'm depressed at the shocking amounts of money wasted by the current Labour government.
triggmiester Posted May 5, 2010 Posted May 5, 2010 Just remember what happened last time we had a Tory government, don't let Thatchers puppet in, VOTE LABOUR Red is the colour
nicholab Posted May 5, 2010 Author Posted May 5, 2010 So why support a new Trident with out reviewing. To me it seems silly that Trident is not part of the strategic defence reviews. As a country we must have wasted a fortune on Nuclear weapons.
creese Posted May 5, 2010 Posted May 5, 2010 Vince Cable is my MP One for the pedantic forum. He's not, there are no MPs at this time.
Rydra Posted May 5, 2010 Posted May 5, 2010 Wherever possible, go rainbow coloured; The Monster Raving Looney Party ftw!
featured_spectre Posted May 5, 2010 Posted May 5, 2010 Just remember what happened last time we had a Tory government, don't let Thatchers puppet in, VOTE LABOUR Red is the colour Are you absolutely insane?! Thatcher admittedly did screw the country, however John Major did his best to fix the problems that Thatcher started. Just because of the past, doesnt mean that history will repeat itself! In that case I will never vote labour again because of the problems they have caused and the massive tax hikes they have imposed.
broc Posted May 5, 2010 Posted May 5, 2010 (edited) Just remember what happened last time we had a Tory government, don't let Thatchers puppet in, VOTE LABOUR Red is the colour I wonder how many people on Edugeek can remember when Thatcher came to power, or what sort of legacy the Tories left behind when they were replaced by 'New Labour'? People have short memories..... 'New Labour' have not performed brilliantly, but they have done quite a bit to improve things where it matters; in health, in education.... looking after the elderly, the disadvantaged. They have failed miserably in keeping the financial sector in check, retaining strategic manufacturing industries, preferring a global free-for-all, and for selling off our gold reserves, but the Tories in their turn squandered UK oil revenues reducing taxes & paying benefits to people they were desperate to keep out of the soaring unemployment figures.... & they sold off all the state assets such as electricity, gas, phone system, railways, coal, steel, shipbuilding. Both Labour & Tories have much to answer for. Edited May 5, 2010 by broc
featured_spectre Posted May 5, 2010 Posted May 5, 2010 which is why Lib Dems should come into power so we have an equal stick with what to beat them with!
Dos_Box Posted May 5, 2010 Posted May 5, 2010 I can't wait until the election is over for 2 main reasons: 1. EduGeek will return to normal! 2. Whoever gets in will have to introduce very, very painful spending cuts, tax rises (likely) and other measures. There is no other way around the problem the UK has with it's finances, and it's about time people relaised that whichever party gets in it will hurt. Roll on tomorrow.

LeMarchand Posted May 5, 2010 Posted May 5, 2010 Maggie Thatcher closed the pits Maggie Thatcher stole kids milk She also sold off pretty much every nationalised industry to her friends in the private sector. Admittedly, Blair did nothing to reverse any of that and then squeezed the last bits of blood out before dropping the mess in Brown's lap. which is why Lib Dems should come into power so we have an equal stick with what to beat them with! I'm leaning towards them for much the same reason: at least we don't know from experience that they're all a bunch of thieving, lying, g1ts.
Guest Guest Posted May 5, 2010 Posted May 5, 2010 2. Whoever gets in will have to introduce very, very painful spending cuts, tax rises (likely) and other measures. There is no other way around the problem the UK has with it's finances, and it's about time people relaised that whichever party gets in it will hurt. And then on the next elections we'll be getting the mob saying "I'm not voting for the current govt., they put up taxes. *cry*" without taking into consideration who put us in this mess in the first place.
maark Posted May 5, 2010 Posted May 5, 2010 Labour - have left the country bankrupt Tories - still have nightmares of thatcher and horrible civil war type state she made the country into as well as squandering oil revenues. Also don't don't trust a bunch of eton boys to know anything about the real world. So - lib dems it is - give them a chance - will save 100 Billion on needless trident anyway
Rydra Posted May 5, 2010 Posted May 5, 2010 hung parliament, with lib dems taking a strong lead gets my vote, give them a chance to actually try running things (hard to say if they can run things till they try; this is the strongest party they've had in 50 years!) Then vote em fully in a few years if they don't screw things up too much.
AyatollahPies Posted May 5, 2010 Posted May 5, 2010 Kevbaz has Oblivious got money. I can't afford to buy my own home or rent!!! Yes, this is one of the biggest issues affecting the country, yet no party seems to care. I imagine most politicians own several houses and we all know that Turkeys don't vote for xmas. However, this has all occurred under the watch of nulabour, so why are you so against the Tories, and not berating the reds?
Bezwick Posted May 5, 2010 Posted May 5, 2010 LibDem - Tory coalition would be a superior government than any of them by themselves! I appologise if i am wrong but didnt i read or hear somewhere that the tories had ruled this out and stated they would attempt to form a minority government, rather than share with the Lib Dems?
localzuk Posted May 5, 2010 Posted May 5, 2010 Lib dem all the way for me. Voting for the others is voting for 'more of the same' - meaning more privatisation, more pandering to big business at the expense of the people, environment and general well-being of the country, more war, and a generally horrible future. Lib dem at least have been honest with the changes they want to make. Scrap trident, become more influential in the EU, make cuts where needed (yes, these will still hurt, but i'd rather the cuts were sensible compared to what the tories propose) etc...

The Tories introduced 'right to buy' for council houses, & then prevented LAs from spending the money building new affordable social housing. New Labour continued where the Tories left off....
