LeMarchand Posted May 5, 2010 Posted May 5, 2010 I personally use Avast, but a lot of people prefer AVG. I have installed the MS option a couple of times on private jobs (when Avast wouldn't play, and I didn't have time to sort out why). Have also heard Avira is quite good.
ICT_GUY Posted May 5, 2010 Posted May 5, 2010 Anti Vir has the best detection rate, far higher than AVG and the upgrade to the full product can be had for £14 for two years (stops poisoned websites and such like). I used AVG for years but it started to let all sorts through.

I used AVG for years but it started to let all sorts through. I've heard many good things about this program on Tech Nibble and such sites, I may install it for a while and see what's what! D

I never ever use it and I have had to remove tons of crud from friends pc's where they had fully up to date AVG. Its worse then no AV as it gives you the illusion your protected when really your not. Def go for microsoft security essentials, it rocks.

I've ran with AVG for years and never get viruses, mind that prob not AVG its just my nature to stay away from things that could harm my lovely PC! D

I've installed AVG and done a full scan of my laptop but I'm still getting the same problem and its getting more frequent. When I'm browsing the web (Internet Explorer, Google Chrome or Firefox), when I click a link I get taken to a completely different site. This is usually another bunch of results on a different search engine or a shopping site with loads of sponsored links. I've deleted all cookies etc but the problem persists Anyone got any ideas? Cheers!

I get a ton of spam to my Hotmail address, dont get any to my work though we use tren micro scanner. D
OutToLunch Posted May 5, 2010 Posted May 5, 2010 Commodo didn't even pick up the eicar file when I tried it, certainly didn't touch any of the other viruses I knew were there and wanted it to get rid of. Their firewall is ok, but I wouldn't trust the AV at all. Using Rising Antivirus at the moment as Security Essentials didn't behave well on my older HT P4s (think it wanted them to be proper dual core then threw a hissy fit)
