I have been asked by the EduGeek team to officially release EduMove to the masses.

 

For all those that have been waiting, go click the link and have fun.

 

For those that don't know what this is then read on....

 

EduMove is a file migration tool with a difference, it was developed in order to make your lives much easier when migrating user files from server to server while retaining the file and folder structure, permisisons and updating the users home drive paths in Active directory all within 3 steps.

 

the tool is free to use and is provided as is amd as always feedback is apreciated.

 

For anyone who has problems downloading from the attached version, try this download link as an alternative.

It works for me. But I did use OSX to unzip it before transferring the MSI to a Windows machine.

yeah we will get it on the projects site sometime after BETT, at the moment we just want to get it out to members as it has been on a waiting list for alot of members for a while now as you can probably imagine as i announced it back last yr and we just never managed to get it out to everyone.

 

As for the download, IE does have problems when downloading .ZIP files, try using FireFox and see how you get on there.

This could indeed be the problem. As mentioned earlier in the post, I downloaded using Safari and unzipped using my Mac before transferring over to a Windows machine - worked fine.

Corrupt for me too. However I am able to open and extract the MSI using 7Zip.

Can I be a pain and point out a spelling mistake on the main config. screen?

 

3 - If you have migrated user home folders use this option to update thier home folder settings within AD.

 

Should read "their"

 

Looks excellent though - Have new servers in the wings and this could be a life saver!

Ok I'm being a tool.

 

Just trying to use this to migrate users from old 2003 server to nice shiny new 2008 server.

 

I don't understand what the "settings" should be set to?

EduMove doesn't work if access is denied or to any folders during the copy process it dies, rich copy on the other hand can be set to continue in such an event.

I thought it carried on then produced a log of what it couldn't copy at the end. I've not really played with it much as i'd done my migration by the time it was finally released.

Nope it just stopped when I tried it, I also can't get ownership info and some permissions to copy over to my new 2008 DC either.

TBH this has not been fully tested on Server 2008 as it was developed with Server 2003 in mind I may need to revisit this once this calm down here
