Criminal Psychologist having read The Jigsaw Man.

Snap lol But mine was watching Cracker.

I left school with very bad gcses i still passed em though lol. My dad is a paramedic, mum worked for the social services. So i ended up working for the priory (aquired Brain injured adults Rehab) did that for 12 yrs.

I stumbled on computers in 1999 when my daughter broke my sisters 386 lol with windows 3.1.

I replaced it with a very cheap 95 machine and i ended up using it myself.

i got on the internet (sole purpose was to download music cds) via dial up. the machine was soooooo slow and a friend of mine was brilliant with computers but wouldnt help me, he just told me how to sort the problem out and he suggested i should build my own. Which i did from then on i found my talent and i soaked everybit of info regarding pcs etc. my g/f (now fiancee) worked for a security company and the mentioned to a techie i was good at pcs passed on my number he rang me within the week i got an interview and the rest is history.

i do love my job but if i had known at school what i do now i would of knuckled down and worked harder id have proberbly been web designer or computer programmer by now.

I started my working life wanting to be a programmer.

I used to work in the games industry, started as a game tester and worked through to producer.

I got sidelined from producer to network manager.

Got made redundant.

Applied for a job at a local school as IT Tech, nailed the interview because I was so over qualified.

Stayed as an IT Tech, refused to interview for the manager position, the job was too much like semi-retirement - and I'm still here!

Yeah I was thinking the same thing,

And you really don't want me sat on your shoulders trying to unscrew the top of your head using your ears. :D

Yeah, pretty much, I have had that happen before and my ears have never been the same since.

Love getting in the classroom occasionally too, ICT teaching these days doesn't float my boat (far too arty) but teaching French or Science is a hoot.
Hmm... science is the only one I could see myself doing if I could do science-y type stuff or possibly agriculture but that is because i'm Australian....

and on that note I will leave you with the footage of the last minutes of a gummy bears life.

If (like many) you hadn't stumbled into IT, what else would you like to do?

I kind of 'fell' into IT back in the early 90's after fixing a few 386's for friends of friends etc. Configuring the IRQ's of sound and graphics cards etc back then was something I seemed to have a talent for!

A few more years 'fiddling' with PC's and generally becoming known as a bit of a guru with all things 'computer', I secured my first 'proper' IT job sometime around 1997.

But what would I have done differently if I had taken a different career path?

I wanted to go into the RAF as a dog handler, and then, I suppose, onto Mi5! Would love to work in undercover Customs and Excise at an airport!

Whilst I can't actually imagine doing anything else other than IT now, I do sometimes wonder if I had taken a left turn instead of a right way back then, where would I be now.

What about anyone else? What would have been your chosen career path if you could turn the clock back and go in a different direction? Or is IT your calling?

I was in Marketing when my 'tech skills' got me moved sideways in IT.

If i hadn't done either i would have liked to be an Archeologist (sic)

Some kind of evil genius that dashes people's hopes and dreams, ruling my domain with an iron fist and an angry glare....

Waaaaitaminute...

Labour PM?

In all honesty - I don't know... due to my disabilities - IT seemed like the best thing for me.

However - I guess something like working as a researcher, maybe MI:5 researcher.

To be honest I don't know. My disabilities do restrict what kind of employment I could feasibly do.

I'd LIKE to do something like Customs at an Airport - but who knows :)

Really? What are they, if you don't mind me asking? I'm of a similar outlook..mild CP, limited lower body strength and knackered fine motor controls mean soldering/engine removal work etc is right out of luck for me..at least on a work basis, heh.

Still do both as a hobby mind you. IT can get dull...

"Genius" and "Labour PM" don't go together!

Haven't you learnt anything from movies, that evil and genius in the same context simply invalidate each other, have you ever seen an Evil Genius? Indeed not, they are generally wiped out at the hands of their own stupidity.
