Our "Literacy Reps" come up with the idea that all worksheets should be created in comic sans etc as its supposedly an easier typeface for the majority of students to access.

 

The whole idea didn't last very long before teachers decided not to bother!

I certanly find it easier to read than Times new roman. (i'm dyslexic btw).

 

Side note - why do dyslexic people know how to spell dyslexic?

You should try working in a school where Comic Sans is their "corporate font" ..

 

But, it is a lot better than anything with tails on (Times New Roman etc .. I mean, what is with that font .. or more to the point, why do people who use it only insist on doing so at 10pt or less?)

Interesting question - I dealt with Herts CC's visual impairment unit a while ago, and they told me that comic sans was a good font to use due to its clarity and also as it uses a shape for 'a' similar to that which you'd write with a pen - for example, look at a lower case 'a' in Arial or Times New Roman and then in Comic Sans.

 

If you search 'comic sans visual impairment' you'll find a fair few supporting websites, for example the British Dyslexia Association (Dyslexia Style Guide- About Dyslexia- The British Dyslexia Association).

 

Other sans serif fonts are available ;-)

Comic Sans was NOT designed as a typeface but as a solution to a problem with the often overlooked part of a computer program's interface, the typeface used to communicate the message.

Comic Sans may be easier to read than others, but it is not a professional type face (of which there are many that are easy to read for people with dyslexia).
