computer:tech ratio

I know this comes up every now and again.

 

we just installed a load more machines now our computer:tech ratio is 162:1

becta recommend between 50:1 and 150:1

We are now having trouble coping with this lot.

 

whats your ratio?

I work on my own and have:

* 135 Thin clients

* 60 XP Workstations

* 60 Staff laptops

* 30 Pupil laptops

* 30 Network printers

* 11 Macs

* 8 Assorted 'other' servers

* 6 Terminal servers

* And a partridge in a pear tree

 

On the client side I make that 296:1

About 300:1. Just me and part of a part-time administrator at the moment but we are recruiting a technician. I can see a further technician being needed in the not too distant future.

It is actually 154:1 (when you consider the euivalent worked hours since I have term time only as well as full time people)

Including server, printers etc. its about 150:1. I'm term time only.

We're 75.5:1 here - quite comfortable I suppose compared to a lot of you. Would still like NetSupport tho!

Whilst it's nice to quantify things, the numbers don't mean much without context.

I never found those to be to bad. A while back RM sold us some nice mice that need to be unscrewed to get the ball out while all the new computers are ball less mice. It does mean cleaning the mouse takes an extra minuet and you need a screwdriver but that’s more then made up by the time saved fixing ball less mice. All the mice and keyboards are fixed to the tables as well.

 

Most of my time is taking up by problems between the keyboard and chair and that 1 wireless box that keeps breaking at the most inconvenient time possible.
