Then I would make sure to set the Device Settings information on the print queue thats on the print server and then any "Printing Defaults" under the Advanced > Printing Defaults tabs. I would then make sure your Group Policy is using an "UPDATE" action so that way your user's queues are always updated by any changs made to the queue on the print server. If its asking for it sometimes and not other, that means the user is either editing their shared queue on their workstation during a print job or using some other queue. It could be that maybe theyre attempting to use the Secured Print and using Department ID on accident?

How are users being connected to the print queue?

Yeah, sounds like at some point someone mapped something to that server using the administrator credentials. Keep in mind the username is sent over in the data stream of the print job. So, if using SMB - its whoever is connected to the share.

Are you wanting to use Department ID or not use it? If you want to use it, how are you managing and deploying your print queues? Are these shares on your print server and deployed to users via GPO?

Anyways - I am currently a Senior systems engineer doing pre-sales, architecture/implementation and senior level support on both PaperCut and uniFLOW products globally even for some of the very hardware vendors you are all using in-house. I know both products can on occasion get a bad reputation but I promise you it is typically not the product and there is a simple solution and they are far more powerful than most providers are able to do. Usually, it is a big misunderstanding and typically the issues or "oh, it cant do that" or "oh, it doesnt do that well" are issues with your support channel and not the actual product. You can actually manage and deploy windows 8 apps centrally per device/user. Microsoft recommended if you need to buy in large volume to go to the software manufacturer at this time. Buy in volume the licenses you need from them and they will give you the app file. Load the app file up into SCCM and deploy as a windows 8 app to your windows 8 devices.

If you have a central store, you will need to place the new admx and adml files in there. Then from an 8.1/server 2012R2 machine you will be able to manage the new policies. You will not see them from a windows 7/server 2008 machine only from the newer OS.

We are moving from Windows 7/Office 2012 to Windows 8.1/Office 2013. We have some machines and tablets on it right now already (admins, office staff, etc). Imaging a little over 300 windows 8.1 pro tablets right now for our Common Core/SBAC implementation. You could build your image how you want. Then use MDT for sysprep and capture, set CopyProfile in the unattend to true and it will copy your admin settings. Like the others have mentioned - we moved away from making custom WIM files (thick imaging) and are now doing thin imaging. Use WSUS for updates (or inject the update packages into MDT), use MDT to install Office, etc. The beautify behind Thin imaging (installing from source) is that you do not have to keep the image itself up to date. It can all be done using WSUS/GPO/MDT/etc. With Windows Vista and above being hardware independent it makes this process very easy and an ideal way to go. Most Windows 8 settings can be found in a GPO or can be set using registry/scripts.

Are you using the right driver for WinPE? I believe HP has SCCM/MDT Driver packs just like Dell offers. For Dell, they offer specific WinPE and System CAB files. Are your WinPE drivers in a different directory than your system drivers? I have noticed we have better luck if we put PE specific drivers and system drivers separated. For WinPE, we use a selection profile for the WinPE environment that only looks in this location for PE drivers. In our MDT task sequence we use then driver group variables to grab the appropriate driver based on the make/model/os version/architecture. Do you seem to have a lot drivers in your WinPE folder? Sometimes we have seen the issue where there are too many drivers and it causes issues - the above method seems to help cut down on that. Also -- have you tried completely regenerating the boot image as opposed to the other options?

We use GPP going on 2 1/2 years now. No issues. Deploy printer to user with item-level targeting on the computer group. A printer group for each printer A GPO for each printer. Put the computers into the proper groups, printers get deployed to the user based on what computer they log into. We have 250ish printers across 7 campuses.

We use Illuminate DNA. Moved over from Data Director. Wish we were using Aeries Analytics since its built into our SIS. Then again, we are in the US - California.

You do not need an MSI to install Lego Mindstorms. Are you trying to push out with GPO or SCCM? Here is the command we use: setup.exe /q /AcceptLicenses yes /r:n. We use SCCM but you could also throw that in a batch file to run at startup within a GPO if you don't have SCCM. Works perfect!
