Mouse mysteriously moving accross screen

Hi all, I have a user on a laptop who's Mouse mysteriously moves accross screen without intervention.

 

Could it be a profile issue? Have already tried supplying her with a new mouse to no effect.

Does the laptop have a touchpad or nipple mouse? If so, try disabling that.

Is the laptop connected to a whiteboard? If so, try disconnecting it.

Does it move fast, or does it trickly accross the screen slowly?

I have had this on a couple of older Dell laptops with the silly nipple thing in the keyboard.

 

Disabling the device through control panel sorted it...although it seemed to enable itself occasionally.

 

I read somewhere that the best fix is to remove the keyboard and cut the cables to the nipple.

i had similar issue afew weeks ago, it turned out that the mouse pad on the laptop had somehow become faulty and caused this replaced with USB Mouse and disabled the mouse pad in control pannel . hope this helps

I've had this too. Fixes vary from the surface of the desk it is on (optical mice and shiny surfaces) and a common one with laptops is gunk under the edge of the touchpad. Try gently lifting the surrounding plastic all around the touchpad.

I've had a Dell in the past which the mouse shot across the screen to one of the corners, if you flexed the case you could get it behave until the mouse-pad/case came back into contact.

 

Also had a Toshiba which did something similar, i eventually tracked that down to a dust build up between the mouse-pad and the case along one edge.

 

I have a Toshiba optical mouse connected to my laptop at the moment and if the cable has been wound in a particular way in the bag when I first use it, the cable seems to lift the front of the mouse off the desk by a few microns and the mouse pointer meanders across the screen for a while.

 

But I usually find disabling the mouse-pad and mouse-nipple and using a proper mouse is the best way to go when these problems occur... oh and for my last problem dont wind the cable around the mouse when its in your laptop bag.

my old laptop did that sometimes, tuned out it was the nipple being dirty. Try taking nipple out and blasting the surface that it rests on with air duster.

We have an IT suite full of a certain brand of mouse, in-conjunction with a shiny desk which produces this effect!

 

Ah my old logitech mouse did that, was really annoying during fps games. for some reason it would shoot up to the top right hand corner, which made me, on a number of occasions, close the window inadvertently!! Damn the shiny
