Hi everyone, I have put a new server in for SIMS. It’s got 2008 64 bit (not R2) and SQL 2008 64 bit running on it. I managed after much fun to get SIMS up and working on it during the break. I found it wouldn't run the management task of back-up despite lots of checks and double checks. The answer there was to service pack SQL to SP1 and then it ran without any grumbles at all - how odd!! Anyway this post is to ask about the wireless laptops I have for PE to do electronic registration through SIMS. Prior to the upgrade (from 2003 server running SQL 2005 to 2008 server running SQL 2008) they could attach to the SIMS server without any issues. Now, they lose their S:\ drive every hour or so and need us to remap to so they can run SIMS. I'm sure this is linked to the 2008 upgrade as (similarly) my Windows 7 PC used to drop or lose its S:\ drive occasionally with the 2003 SIMS server. I've looked through the firewall settings and all seem to be ok (but I've not done a 2008 server course yet). The settings in Network + sharing places seem to be right too, although I can't change discovery from 'custom'. So have any of you had something similar you could point me towards. Or better - have any of you who got or done a server 08 course know what I need to do to rectify? cheers Van

The affected accounts do not have manditory profiles, and yes we have users in AD and on our proxy server we don't intergrate active directory with our proxy server

Good Morning all, this morning i was confronted with a large problem involving IE8 and our proxy server, our staff users authenticate using there username and password that is set on the proxy server itself, they have no problems in a single session, they can exit out of IE8 and go back onto it and it will remember there UN and PW, but if that user then logs off and logs back on it has forgotton there UN and PW. The headteacher of our school believes this to be a security threat as staff have to keep entering there details and with kids being kids there prying eyes are all around. I have checked the Auto-complete settings in Group Policy but as this isnt really an autocomplete issue, and as expected did not work. if someone has experienced this or knows anything about it, your help would be very welcome

Another strange problem for the people of the world, we had a SMARTBoard 600 series installed during the summer break, we have build a purpose build WB machine for the job of controling it. we installed all the software from the disk as per usual, but when it came to Callibration time the flashing cross in the top left corner (the first one you press) it flashes for about 3 secs then stops the pens do not interact with the board and has to be Escaped out of, the strange thing is the PC sees the board but does not react to it all lights are green it knows its there but still the problem any ideas.

i had similar issue afew weeks ago, it turned out that the mouse pad on the laptop had somehow become faulty and caused this replaced with USB Mouse and disabled the mouse pad in control pannel . hope this helps

Heres a good problem, we recycle our used toner through Recycool.org and recently we have noticed that they have stopped paying out money to the schools account. shortly after this we recieved a letter asking, no sorry telling us to stop sending them 'Compatable Toners' otherwise they will start charging us for them to dispose of them. does anyone know of a good company that does this sort of thing at little or no cost ?
