gshaw Posted September 14, 2009 Posted September 14, 2009 ...what career would you go into instead? Been thinking about this as I'm not sure IT is gonna be such a great place to be in the future so been wondering what I'd do if not this... maybe something to do with cars but then might be a good idea to do a job I'd hate instead of one that makes your hobbies boring after working with them all day
karldenton Posted September 14, 2009 Posted September 14, 2009 Coach driver for me. Still young so can get to see Europe and I enjoy driving
sparkeh Posted September 14, 2009 Posted September 14, 2009 Coach driver for me. Still young so can get to see Europe and I enjoy driving Ooh nice one. I would like to be a writer.
Hightower Posted September 14, 2009 Posted September 14, 2009 I plan on being out of IT support within 3 years, to move to a similar field - programming
IanT Posted September 14, 2009 Posted September 14, 2009 British Trainsport Police Officer or Train Driver
mattx Posted September 14, 2009 Posted September 14, 2009 Paramedic or Nursing. Interesting, almost did that about 7 years ago when I was looking after my nipper in GOSH - then I got the job where I am now.....[ after redundancy ] I would like to go into pest control, setup on my own or work for a small firm. Either that or gardening.
Batman Posted September 14, 2009 Posted September 14, 2009 I'd like to be a full time musician. Actually, I may be leaving work to look after my son next year. My wife is better paid and has a career whilst I'm just a Technician who'd rather be in a band. Hopefully more time at home will help me to finish the recording project I started 2 years ago and have yet to finish
Simcfc73 Posted September 14, 2009 Posted September 14, 2009 Thinking of becoming a sparky or plumber. I got a long sales pitch from a distance learning company which sounded very good and at the end I would have had qualifications coming out of my backside but it was £5k which is a bit rich for my taste even with the 2 years interest free loan.
K.C.Leblanc Posted September 14, 2009 Posted September 14, 2009 British Trainsport Police Officer or Train Driver Are you a train spotter? Ideally something technical behind the scenes in theatre or concerts. Or something working for myself.
timbo343 Posted September 14, 2009 Posted September 14, 2009 id probs be a traffic cop or go into the trade. I was wanting to be a sparky before i had my mind set on computers.
bossman Posted September 14, 2009 Posted September 14, 2009 I had thought about electronics in the car industry, especially the high performance cars and upgrading the firmware on the engine management systems for cash. Then I thought about B and Q stacking shelves and how stress-less it seems Hmmmmmm...............................Difficult choice
Optics Posted September 14, 2009 Posted September 14, 2009 I wanted to be an Astronomer or Bricklayer when I was growing up, and ended up an Optician who then got into IT. So I guess it would be Astronomer.
ButterflyMoon Posted September 14, 2009 Posted September 14, 2009 A writer here or fulltime photographer though I do work freelance doing that just now
Popular Post mattx Posted September 14, 2009 Popular Post Posted September 14, 2009 I wanted to be a 'spirit level bubble inserter' when I was at school...... Was not level headed enough. 5

tmcd35 Posted September 14, 2009 Posted September 14, 2009 I wanted to be a 'spirit level bubble inserter' when I was at school...... Was not level headed enough. should really dish out some neg rep for that one! 1
Popular Post Hollie1985 Posted September 14, 2009 Popular Post Posted September 14, 2009 If I wasn't working in IT then I would like to be managing my own foster care agency and giving something back to the kids, providing them with a 2nd chance of "normal" lifestyle 5

You never know you may be able to do something along those lines voluntary - [ if you are not doing something already on a similar level ]
Butuz Posted September 14, 2009 Posted September 14, 2009 Pilot for me (preferably rotary wing). Butuz
mac_shinobi Posted September 14, 2009 Posted September 14, 2009 Winning the lottery and retiring early but its not working for me as of yet lol
plexer Posted September 14, 2009 Posted September 14, 2009 Sparky possibly or something to do with cnc/engineering/bespoke stuff. Ben
torledo Posted September 14, 2009 Posted September 14, 2009 i'd like to have been a member of those firms that build the 'megstructures' on TV. Like working on that giant french viaduct project or working on assembling the bits for the hadron collider thingy. there's loads of other stuff i'd like to be doing, but that would keep me busy for a couple of years before semi-retirement.
