Oops_my_bad Posted July 21, 2009 Posted July 21, 2009 Could I ask what everyone is using for their library management system (LMS)? We are currently having a VI form built with a "resource" centre (books/periodicals and what not). In our existing library we use Eclipse2 which is OK but not much cop. We are considering Oliver from Softlink but I notice some of you seem to be getting rid of this!? Whatever we get would be used to cover both libraries There is also Talis but their products may be a little overkill for our needs!? Thanks

I've used Junior Librarian at a primary too - basically Eclipse2 with a nice cartoony front end. Looking in to Eclipse.Net (essentially SharePoint) - looks ok, good deals on to try and convince us to upgrade too. While I've not been too blown away by the product, I have to say the makers (Micro Librarian Systems) have been excellent on the phone if I've ever needed them. 1

featured_spectre Posted July 21, 2009 Posted July 21, 2009 its a default one on the access 2007 version. I gave up with mine as when I asked our librarian to test it, she found about 60 bugs in 1 week. Was too much for me to continue with seeing as I have over 150 machines to cope with by myself

Looks quite nice (certainly compared to the Alice system we're currently running!), but I haven't seen the competition so can't really comment The librarian did mention that the one school in the local area running Oliver is looking at moving to Eclipse.net. 1

Totally agree with this, and also the Sharepoint Web Parts made us switch to Eclipse and we got this rather than the Acquisitions module included (as our librarian will not use the acquisistions module!) 1
teejay Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 Eclipse.net here, was on Eclipse before and moved to .net a year ago. There has been a few minor glitches, but the Librarian does really like some of the extra features. 1

Webby: Softlink Europe - Home We use oliver at the moment and the librarians find it pretty easy to use and we very rarely have any trouble with it. Kids seem to use it aswell which is rather astonishing. We did have one issue with a process maxing out the server when oliver ran its end-of-day tasks, got on to tech support, a friendly chap remoted in and solved the problem within half an hour. Great customer/technical support. Highly recommended. 1
oalcock Posted September 2, 2009 Posted September 2, 2009 Why not try Eclipse, they provide extreamly good technical support services, you can purchase all the top gizmos like barcode scanner and fingerprint reader, the eclipse software is based for use in a school library environment. It comes with something called searchstar which enables pupils to interact with whats going on within the library i.e. write reviews and see when their books are due back etc. Also it gives reports on who is reading the most books and what the most popular books are for the librarians personal market research purposes so that he/she knows what books to purchase next budget year.

It wasn't helped by the poor mobile internet signal. But even so the chap demonstrating it didn't seem to know his way round the product well enough and made a right hash of showing me things I asked about. It put me right off it.

Guy I spoke to even stayed out of normal support hours to find the resolution. Can't moan there. Don't really use it enough to comment on the features though. Decided to leave Eclipse.net given the comments made on here.
