BBeh Posted June 23, 2009 Posted June 23, 2009 We managed to get about 22000 with this years, and what we banked last year. We decided to order Smartboard pens with those, seeing as they are forever breaking or going missing in action. Hopefully it'll mean we'll have some spare.

localzuk Posted June 23, 2009 Posted June 23, 2009 Their phone line seems to be down too. Causing real problems as we have 69k of them sat here to go, and the courier only took 12k. Grrr!!

DAckroyd Posted June 23, 2009 Posted June 23, 2009 Why can they not (as I suggested to RM person at one of the seminars years ago) have an option on the tills that when you spend £10+ it comes up with a choice of local schools and you say which one you wish to support and it automatically adds those points onto your school. Also I have thought for a while that if students go in in school uniform then that school should get points for each pupil.

Courier turns up saying his paperwork is for one packet, and that is all he was going to take. He was willing to take both schools' packs if I bound them together with an elastic band though! Does anyone know if we can still post vouchers off as well as have the collection? We are still getting vouchers coming in, and it would be a shame to lose them... Like others, I've had no joy on either the 0870 or 0208 numbers.

Problem is, I'm not really a fan of most of the technical stuff available in the catalogue (RM), so we're using the vouchers for pe/outdoor equipment. I also find the value of the vouchers varies considerably. If you work out the voucher cost for a certain item, then compare it to another, it is massively different. Just annoys me Got 3 Asus EEE PCs last year, and last week found time to get them to work and on the network When i was in the UK i was never impressed with the choice or apparent cost of items in the catalogue, we used to end up buying cheap things like CDs and once ended up giving them to the primary school down the road. Even with sweet talking the checkout girls, blagging whole books, and begging vouchers from everyone in the queue that says they are not collecting, a school would be very lucky to get a computer out of it, let alone more than one. So calling it Computers for schools is hardly the right name. Wouldn't it be easier if every year Tesco just donated a percentage of profits to all local schools, in cash and they could put it towards something they really needed. I worked out once that looking at the cost of purchases at Tesco and what you can swap vouchers for on the best product on the catalogue, something like a 100 stack of CD-Rs, that pack of CDs cost a bloomin' fortune! Therefore i was going to suggest to all parents that they go to shop at Aldi or Netto (where you can still get brand names like Coke, Persil, McVities etc. for 10-50p less) and then for each family just to donate 50p to the school per shopping trip. With our 1000 or so pupils that could easily have been a couple of grand over the collection period, much more than you'd ever get through the actual vouchers. Imagine how much productive work the person counting those vouchers could do with their time, it's such a hassle i dont think the whole thing is worth it.
localzuk Posted June 23, 2009 Posted June 23, 2009 Quick question - some of you are mentioning 1 person counting them all?! Why do you do this?! Why not do what we do - every tutor group collects them, and then hand bundles of 100 to a single point? I'd go insane if I had had to count our 82,000!

I'd go insane if I had had to count our 82,000! 82000 is a very high number I think 10-20,000 is more common number which does end up more doable by one person but just a little boring - many places don't trust the students to count them as they don't trust them to count to 100 very well

I have emailed Tesco to seek clarification as we have quite a few vouchers come in since we sent the order off.

Vouchers need to be received by 3rd July but once an order has been made no further vouchers can be banked. This is written on the website somewhere, I can't login and check right now though as the letter is at work. chrbb, are you sure there isn't a letter in school somewhere? The login information was sent with the Tesco pack when the scheme was announced for 2009.

Edu-IT is correct, the letter states "We must receive your vouchers and order/banking form by Friday 3rd July ...."

I don't think the 6 on my desk would be an appropriate index, but perhaps some people could announced their discovered weights of 1,000 of Tesco/Sainsburys etc. (Mind you, my daughter would have ended up doing science in her Science lesson on Tuesday if her school did this, and she wouldn't thank me )

Plus a bit more variation for the cardboard backing on some of them and the staples (why do people do this?!). Oh, and for the Sainsbury vouchers, bus tickets, sweet wrappers and so on which also accumulate in the collection boxes :-)
