Server names - what do you call yours?

We've got ours named after fruits. APPLE, ORANGE, PEACH, BANANA, KIWI, PLUM, PINEAPPLE, LEMON etc.. etc...

 

In fact we're looking for a name for our new Exchange server in the summer, any ideas?

I think you should reserve "lemon" for your Exchange server, quite an accurate description I think

I'd agree, except the state of our ISA box, LEMON is far better used for that!

We're very boring here... servers are named as to what they do (not my idea, I was going to go for the Famous Five and Timmy the Dog as we have 6 servers in all)

 

However the units collectively in their nice HP cabinet are known as Bertha (which always makes me hum the theme tune)

 

And here's me thinking they would be called Anfield , Gerrard etc

I followed that kind of theme at home. My lone server* is called Iridium - I just liked the name!

 

I'm more boring with my PCs - I just derive a single word name from the make and/or model so I can recognise more easily which is which! Hence I'm typing this on Scaleo, although I could have used e170, MV1214 or iPaq!!

 

 

*Well, calling it a server is a bit grand really - it runs Debian on an old PIII Celeron 600 laptop, running Samba, Apache, PHP and MySQL for file server, intranet server and playing with Moodle!

We are really sad here, our servers are all called names from the Star Trek Sci series.

 

We use the following:

Voyager, Enterprise, Delta-Flyer, Defiant, Concorde, Wellington & DS9

 

How sad are we?

Our school domain uses Server1, Server2, Server3 etc.

 

I've built networks for LAN parties over the years with various different naming conventions... Weebl and Bob, Shodan and Xerxes, or more recently, Daedalus, Icarus and Helios.

We used to have Jeffrey, George, Freddy, Rod & Jane and still have Bungle % Zippy (both going this summer)

 

We have changed to CURRIC01, ADMIN01, PRINT01 etc. A bit boring but it gives us an idea of function.

Which is what our Linux servers are called - The LTSP servers are Lisa, Bart, Maggie, Homer, Marge, MrBurns, Selma, and Patty. Maud, Ned and Rod (with Tod to come) are a clustered file server. Otto does the backups, Apu is my development box, Skinner is the print server and ComicBookGuy is the intranet server. There are plenty more names available if we get more servers.

 

For M$, the CMIS server is SV1 (server 1) and there isn't a server 2. The eportal box is rather imaginatively named eportal.
