From the Poll I have Windows 2000 and XP

XP/2003 Server on the main school network, 2k on the Computing/Business Studies network. We also still have a couple of 98/ME ( ) standalone systems lurking about.

I have a selection of XP clients and Linux clients all running Citrix off Server 2003 servers.

On the curriculum side we have 3 w2k servers and all the clients on Windows xp. On the admin side we have a w2k3 server with a mix of windows 2000 pro and xp.

The secondary school has a mix of 2k and XP workstations with 2k, 2k3 and Linux servers.

 

The primary schools either have a mishmash of various windows PCs ranging from XP to 3.1(!). A few are lucky enough to have 2k/2k3 servers. I'm trying to get things moved along but suffer from a lack of money. There's a few Linux boxes scattered about doing various useful functions behind the scenes.

If this post was in America I think Mac OS10 would be winning. Would people benefit from Linux versions of software, drivers etc.

That's a hell of a lot of servers (when you consider you aren't running Citrix or TS). You have a lot of clients too!

same as me though - 300 clients but only 900 kids. And i'm starting to go under - suppose it's related to your budget - a 3 year replacement cycle would mean less work supporting - someone should chart it!

@mark: That's part of the idea of the Citrix implementation. Since you are technically only installing software on x number of servers, rather than x-hundred clients, it should be less hassle and less administration (I am also using enterprise edition with its magical replication).

 

I'm also not exactly sure where I could put a little helper - maybe kick the IT teacher out to free up some desk space

@Ric_ so do you publish the whole desktop then [as I do on our Citrix system] and doesn't that leave you with very poor functionality with multimedia and high end apps such as the macromedia stuff?

 

Interesting you seem to know so much Citrix config - I had a hell of a job getting into it as a newbie - and the guys that installed it had it no-where as neat as you have it! We have XPe too.
