GrumbleDook Posted January 14, 2009 Posted January 14, 2009 Ok folks, here is the first thing you do. For those of you wanting pizza you need to come and collect your EduGeek Lanyard as soon as you can get into the show. We also have some nice bags for you to put various freebies into and there may be a surprise or two in them. We will be taking basic numbers for pizza so make sure we know who you are. Come to the stand for between 12.00 and 12.15 and we will start dishing up about 12.30. Please also use this thread if you find any good freebies you want to share with other. If you don't have time to log in somewhere and post just pop by the stand and let one of our eager EduBett staff know. We are also working to get this feed onto the Bett MiniSite too. Happy hunting and we look forward to seeing you.
Diello Posted January 14, 2009 Posted January 14, 2009 yTeach are giving away yo-yo's... never seen such a smile on my Techie's face! Lenovo have got some rather nice quality A4 notebooks designed to look like laptops - AND fairly decent mouse mats as well. Quite a few more odd freebies this year than usual. For the gamers - see nvidia on S70 - Farcry2 in 3D with the latest nvidia 3D glasses as shown at CES, pretty darn impressive. Not to mention their "using-GPUs-as-processors" killer rigs.

I think I'll bring a suitcase instead of just a weekend bag.
Diello Posted January 14, 2009 Posted January 14, 2009 I think I'll bring a suitcase instead of just a weekend bag. LOL Hmm... To be banned at next year's BETT: People with suitcases on wheels which trail about 3 feet behind them, and walk at a snails pace. Actually thought one bloke was going to be lynched (I'd of joined in ) as he zig-zagged down an aisle tripping about 5 people up in the process.
Uraken Posted January 14, 2009 Posted January 14, 2009 Thanks for the freebies chaps, it was good to see you all again although i missed the pizza Diello i saw him too with his trolley bag ha ha what a nightmare.

Actually thought one bloke was going to be lynched (I'd of joined in ) as he zig-zagged down an aisle tripping about 5 people up in the process. I wasn't being serious. I can imagine how much of a pain they are at somewhere like BETT. I'll keep my eyes peeled for such people, ready to attack.
Diello Posted January 14, 2009 Posted January 14, 2009 Wow, nVidia giving those away as freebies? Have they not heard about the credit crunch! LOL - Sorry, my bad, posting when tired bad idea - Only a demo I'm afraid, you don't get them for free! Just suggesting people take a look, Techie & I did a double-take suddenly seeing FC2 being played. Nothing educational in it, but brilliant!
somabc Posted January 14, 2009 Posted January 14, 2009 Saw Microsoft, demoing 'surface' nice but I don't see any schools buying that. VMWare were offering 30% off VMFusion and an 'I [Heart] VMWare' Sticker'. Another company gave me a network cable with Fibre Optic attachment so that you can instantly tell which socket / patch panel you are connected to without tracing the cable.
OverWorked Posted January 14, 2009 Posted January 14, 2009 We need some freebies to make up for the prices of the food at Olympia. This afternoon I paid £3 for a coffee, then later £5 for a smoothie at Crussh opposite EduGeek. The coach from Leeds was cheaper. As I'm writing this I'm with relatives in London, so I'm getting a packed lunch for tomorrow. Lots of genuinely interesting sales pitches, but no freebies yet, apart from the EduGeek goodie bag. What's the USB thing in the white box? Haven't had chance to look at it yet.

chasb73 Posted January 15, 2009 Posted January 15, 2009 Will probably be there tmrw. One of our guys went yesterday... Comments from the Dell stand about their netbook were that although it comes with XP home it can be upgraded, but don't put Vista on it. The one he looked at had Windows 7. There will be a 10" Latitude version out in the spring. Surprised that Dell already have Windows 7 on it, its not out of beta!
SwedishChef Posted January 15, 2009 Posted January 15, 2009 What stand was the optical network cable on I want one !!? Ps read about the pizza don't get your lanyard and goto pizza express demanding your Pizza ...I did and the guy just laughed at me
ajbritton Posted January 15, 2009 Posted January 15, 2009 (edited) There is an American guy demoing these Multiplication Tables machines upstairs in the gallery on stand W63 and giving away demo units to those who stick around long enough. Looks great for teaching the little 'uns their basic maths. edit: according to this (http://www.bettshow.com/page.cfm/Action=Exhib/ExhibID=01254/pageOption=ExhibLibraries_2/t=m) there are 312 units to be given away so get their ASAP. Edited January 15, 2009 by ajbritton replaced incorrect link
bizzel Posted January 15, 2009 Posted January 15, 2009 Saw Microsoft, demoing 'surface' nice but I don't see any schools buying that. Not at the current asking price anyway, I think it's well over £100,000.
sahmeepee Posted January 15, 2009 Posted January 15, 2009 Not at the current asking price anyway, I think it's well over £100,000. Bit less than that.. more like $12500, so about £8500. Still needs to drop a load and become useful in some way
DanW Posted January 15, 2009 Posted January 15, 2009 Acronis are giving away free copies for Acronis True Image Home if you fill out a questionnaire. Was interesting day and i got some interesting contacts. Just got on the train now and feel like i'm going to fall asleep...
Sylv3r Posted January 15, 2009 Posted January 15, 2009 I didn't really get many freebies just the odd pen. The notebook as a laptop looked good but I failed to get myself one. After checking my haul this morning after yesterdays visit - I don't seem to have as many freebies as I thought I picked up. The magazine from the Edugeek stand was a good read. Thanks to all those that got an article published.
