Don't be too put off, phone them - Mine says no, but i've already got it - not the 50mb, but 20mb - and it says the alternative to the 50mb is up to 16 through a phone line - not me, got it coming straight in from the fibre link at the top of the road.

Phone them and check, i will be doing.

The 50mbit package is on a different checker to the others.

If it is not traffic manged then how are Virgin going to pay for all this bandwidth, someone running at 50Mbit 24/7 is going to be shifting terabytes surely?

The Upload is also very poor.

Its only non-managed for the short time until they have rolled it out to more:

Berkett said that to begin with the "premium" 50Mbit/s service will not be traffic managed. Virgin Media throttles the bandwidth available to heavy users on its other broadband packages at peak times. Berkett added that restrictions will be introduced around the same time the rollout is complete, however.

Brilliant, cut down to low speeds for downloading movies, games and porn via BT.

;)

tbf, I wouldnt use BT for anything these days, legal or illegal. Far quicker via newsgroups

I can't!!

I pay for a 2 meg line, but get between 1.7-1.9 which is good enough for me. I know someone who pays for a 16 meg with someone, but they only get 5, it really isn't worth paying for speed sometimes!!

I see no reason to change my broadband the largest things that i download is songs/podcasts from iTunes. I don't care that it takes up to 1 minute for a podcast to download, I am not going to pay another £20 a month to get my songs in "less than a second".

I would like 50 megs at school though!! I wonder when E2BN are going to offer this and how much they will charge??? :D

I've been looking to change my ISP for months now, never got round to looking into a decent one...

All I need a nice and quick one for general family browsing when 3 computers are connected at the same time. I like using BBC Iplayer, I've banned my brother downloading after he's destroyed two computers with viruses.

Anyone recommend something for a small sum, like £15 to £20 maximums?

I cant recomment Be highly enough. Not since I was on UKOnline have I had such a decent ISP.

I cant get their multi-ip working so am wasting a tenner a month on those, but apart from that, 15meg about a mile and a half from the exchange, and 2 meg upstream, does me fine.

I think theyve got an offer on just now for recommendations, if you want some free vouchers for M&S and free installation?

Be does look quite good, even the Be Value looks good enough for my household at the moment.

Can you remember what subscribing is like, all hassle free and no mess or anything?

I like everything to run as smoothly as it can, but then who doesn't :p

Are D-Link (one about 2 years old, I can't think of the model) / Netgrear (i might get a new one :D) routers all capable of running the services and everything?

And does the unlimited mean GENUINE unlimited or can it get capped?

Posted

Truly unlimited. I go through about 400gb a month on average. The web part of signing up wouldnt work for me so I had to do it over the phone, dunno if it was my browser or a problem with them. But it was about a week from the call to going live.

I use a netgear DG834GT with custom firmware from DGTeam. To get the maximum upstream you need to use a modem that supports Annex M rather than the usual Annex A.
